Oddly enough I can understand that "SOUNDS bother them" statement.

It must be a nerve thing because even though my feet are basically numb all of the time (you can stick a needle in my foot or chop off my toenail until it bleeds) certain textures like carpet or certain shoes cause more pain. Even the temperature changes seems to cause flair ups. You would think since the nerves are out of order down their that stuff would make no difference. :idunno

It is a nerve thing. The docs had a name for it. Hypertussis. They described it to me the same way as describing the ringing in the ear, or tinnitus. The nerves are realizing there is not enough sound and is trying to turn up the volume, but because of the damage, the results are not ideal. That problem seems to come and go for me and isn't always there. But people cannot understand how I can say I can't hear but also say that sounds hurt.

I don't have a diagnosis but if there are a lot of sounds, I have troubles differentiating the ones people are making when they talk to me.

And the wind out here ... wowsers! Spring is the worst because it rarely quits. Gusts of 50 mph and upwards are normal. By the end of the day, I just want to cover my head with a pillow so I can have some down time.

Like now. Enjoy your chili! And hmmm... cornbread and cake. I soooo want to teleport!

I fully understand the sounds thing. I have GREAT hearing. Amazing super duper I hear every damned thing hearing. And some sounds my ears cannot LET GO of. Those seem to be the same sounds that set off tinnitis.

I'd visit you. I'd bring a white board and markers and would write you if I had to repeat too much :)

Oh yes, I have the problem w/sounds. Some sounds bother me worse than others. And it then makes it hard for me to hear what I need to hear because of the pain.

For instance, when I was in college, I took a couple of semesters of French. For the tests, he had these tapes we were supposed to listen to, and write down what they said. They were horrible! They sounded like they had been made from scratchy records. People that had no hearing problems complained about them. And because he knew I had hearing problems, he always turned them UP so I could hear them. I tried to explain to him that that made it worse, but he didn't get it. I ended up w/a C the 2nd semester, one that I felt was NOT deserved. He was the only French teacher. I would have liked to have taken another semester or 2 but there was no way I was going to take it w/him.

RL, for the wind, I have the stretchy hair bands as well as fleece head warmers. In the winter, I use the fleece. Once it gets warm, I use the hair bands and wear them the same way I would the head warmer. They might help you.

I was just going to say I'm addicted to jackets with hoods. I put up my hood on my jacket more than anyone I know! People giggle at me sometimes but for heavens sake, it is always attached to my coat so it is always handy!

When they did my hearing test, the sounds that caused the pain reaction were all in the same frequency range, high pitched and loud. She finally could stop testing me because she saw I was flinching for each "beep".

The next time I had a hearing test I was dreading that reaction, but it didn't happen! So I guess to some extent, hypertussis can come and go. It seems to me cold weather makes it worse.

I can't stand jackets w/hoods. The hoods always get in my way. I've tried them. I'll also wear a baseball cap that's too big because I can have it down lower, so that it keeps hair over my ears.

Yes, I did! I felt almost normal. And we had a warm, sunny day here.

I decided it was high time to clean the chicken coop. It took me forever! We had a long winter this year......

Remind me I DON'T want any more chickens! It is nice the coop is so clean though. I also set up a goat playground with a bunch of junk I had laying around, but they are enjoying it, and let everyone free range for awhile and tidy-ed up a little in the yard.

It feels like spring and the alders are starting to turn red. Many plants have their spring buds and everything is sprouting. I wish I had more energy left, I think I should be out hunting nettles for soup. But cleaning the chicken coop "pooped" me out. :gig

Sorry, bad pun.
