Heehee, I don't think you are cruel to give him a job. They gotta learn that goofing off doesn't pay.
Mother nature is playing nice today. We seem to be on a 2 days of heavy rain, one day of sun cycle.

I don't feel bad for him either. Heck, you can put him on a plane and send him my way - I've got a whole lotta stuff he can do too!

I haven't told one of my foster stories for awhile so I thought I should. But so many have been sad, I thought I'd put in a rags-to-riches one with NO real sadness involved.

The Story of Kenai

Well, I said the story wasn't sad but of course, in rescue, the dogs start in a bad place. This one always stuck out to me. I had a neighbor who phoned my organization with a tale. She had worked with us previously regarding a goat that we rehomed for her, so she knew who to call when she ended up rescuing a puppy.

But she was driving down the road in town, minding her own business, when she sees a puppy come out of a car window. She stops, assumes it jumped accidentely, and catches it. She catches up with the car driver, assuming they did not know the pup had jumped, and returned the dog with a smile. Well they continue down the road, and she sees them THROW the dog from the window. It lands with a thud but is alright, and she catches it again. This time she does not follow the folks to return the dog, she angrily brought it home. She thought to keep it but didn't really have the right situation for a puppy, so she called me. She had gotten it spayed and fixed up, but couldn't keep it, could I come pick it up? I said sure.

Well I had a nice lady all lined up to meet a pup I already had at my house and was on the way to an adoption event, so I just picked up the new pup on the way. It looked like a little black lab, perfect little lab face, nice looking dog. The adopter fell in LOVE with the new dog and had been kind of looking for a lab but wasn't sure she wanted one that big. So this dog looked perfect. The dog set the record for the foster that I had for the shortest amount of time....about an hour!

This was several years ago and I knew this person through my daughter, so I got to hear about it for many years. It ended up being lab mixed with JACK RUSSELL, so it was a hysterical looking dog but extremely beloved. It was known to have a toy collection of something like 200 stuffed toys. It was quite spoiled!

So that was a happy one for you guys! No crying this time. But I doubt many dogs do as well being thrown from cars TWICE. Incidentely, she still loves going places with her people and doesn't mind the car at all. Go figger.

Yes, Java,I told him this morning that with his school record he is moving right towards a manual-labor type job so he had better work up the muscles for it.

Hoorah for puppy rescue!!!!

I think chores are a good idea for someone home from school on suspension. You want it to be a fun vacation with video games and sprawling around?? Pffff.

Random amusement: I was in the shower and Amira snuck between the shower curtain and cloth curtain and then stood as high as she could and YOWLED! and then ran off laughing.

She's such a dork. I haven't told her I'm about to leave again for an eight hour shift.

Abi, I agree 100%. Might make him think 2x about getting into trouble at school again if he knows he's not going to get a vacation from it. And, I think the chores should continue AFTER the suspension is over, at least until Easter. Then the lesson just might sink in even more.

We have an inch, sticking, and it is snowing hard.

Did mother nature forget to look at the calender? Hubby is using this as a debate point about global warming, for goodness sakes.

How I love to look out in April and see the flocked Christmas trees AGAIN!

And I have Trouble as my slave again today. How can I send him out in the blizzard to work? I have to hope for a break in the weather. So far I have him scrubbing pots.

And we discovered the baby buns can hop out the little holes in the cage! Another project for Trouble, he will be excellent dealing with that. But he will be working under blizzard conditions. hee hee

We have a fourth ridgeback. Our original three are exiting soon and we are still under the legal county limit of 10 at nine dogs here, so I'm enjoying it. The new dog is Cora, a shelter pull. She has the more typical aloof RR personality, but of course she already loves Hubby and me. She just proved it by trying to chew one of his shoes just now. hee hee But she is a pretty thing, I'll have to post a link to her webpage once they put it up.

I'm sure my chickens are CONVINCED winter is coming again now....
