I'm coming out of it. Had the spins this morning. My body is not used to hearing, I think that is part of it. It isn't as good as yesterday. I think because of the storm.

SD, after reading some of the threads on here, something I got to wondering about, and figured you might know. W/your MD, did they ever check vitamin, mineral levels. I'm reading some of the things that people have problems with, and the symptoms are similar to some of what I've experienced. But, no one has ever suggested low levels of vitamins and minerals. Is there a possible connection, or am I grasping at straws?

We have a chemical imbalance in our ear so we need to be careful with things that change our balance too quickly. I would rather try to eat a healthy diet than take more medications. I suspect with your level of this disease they could help you a lot with a dieuretic, that worked for me for a really long time. Like 15 years. For you, maybe long enough to get over the active stage of the disease. I remember you had trouble with one or something like that, but I did too, my doctor just kept trying different ones until we found the one I tolerated best. If I were you, before I'd try taking supplements and such, I'd try finding someone familiar with Menieres and see if they can't find some medication that wipes out all your symptoms. They usually try dieuretics first.

You will find literature that Niacin or Vitamin B is helpful. I took megadoses for awhile (per a doctor) and it just made me feel ill. Usually now when you see literature or doctors recommending this, it is an old-school idea, they did not find that niacin really helped us. We need potassium, so you might want to eat foods rich in potassium (banana, kiwi, fruits and veggies).

I'm sure it would not hurt to take a multiple vitamin but I'd be careful with anything that alters your chemistry too much at once, that is what sets us off. I'm WAY afraid to try herbal treatments, I once tried "salvia" which was supposed to be "anti-vertigo", and I ended up being allergic to it and had a big vergito attack.

Dr. Kim always says the biggest thing is stress. It causes the wrong chemicals to go to our ears. So things like your job really do aggravate it. But no, I would be careful trying stuff Deb. That is not a luxury we can afford I'm afraid.

I have had my blood tested in many ways, (just realized I didn't really answer your question deb). There were lots of things they found out but I'm not low on anything, I actually eat a really healthy diet.

I'm sure running a panel would not be a bad idea for yourself. But with the vertigo you have I really think an ENT should be following you. Did they ever give you an MRI to rule out acoustic neuroma? I forget where you got diagnosed. sorry, brain is still fuzzy.

thanks moolie!

I don't recall having an MRI, but they did do a cat scan. But then again, it was 20 + years ago, so I'm not sure what all they did then. I just remember the cat scan and the test they did to try and make me dizzy.

So they ruled it out probably.

When I got sent to the first specialist I saw, he right away asked why I was not taking a dieuretic. I just shrugged. He said something about them usually being the "first thing tried" because it was the easiest way to throw things back in balance.

If you tried a natural approach, say diet, for dieuretic properties, you would have to eat exactly the same thing every day at the same time and the same strength in the plant to duplicate what taking the medication would do for you. Think of it as trying to stay on an even keel. No spikes in anything.

Well good morning everyone! It is a bright ....RAINY day here at Dizzy Dog Ranch. I'm tired of talking about Meniere's disease so I just won't. I feel good this morning and it is 8:30 and I've already taken care of all the animals and made a big batch of farmer cheese because I have so much goat milk. Goat milk and eggs.

The rain was really coming down last night and blew in onto my (outdoor) chick coop! It had to be coming down sideways to do that! But it hit the heat lamp, which then burst into a zillion pieces. I found them huddled on the opposite side of the coop this morning, all terrified. I think it must have just happened. They sound so LOUD!

Actually everything is loud right now. I'm actually following the train of a conversation on the TV without looking at the screen. :weee I know I can't count on this lasting but I'll enjoy it while it is here.

I think I'm doing really good with the squash and pumpkins! I will have a lot. But my potatos are not sprouting. Hubby says they didn't have enough eyes sprouting. How long should taters take to start sending up shoots? It has been more than a week. Maybe I should dig one up and see what they are doing.
