Terrific! someday we'll be talking about "we knew her when... and you'll be saying who are those people... but you'll have a huge yard for all your critters and some employees to shovel the poo.
I will always cherish the friendship offered by those here......
I'm excited today, I get to meet my niece's daughter and see my sister from Canada, and brother and the collective (grown) children; as well as my mom, her boyfriend and my daughter and the baby. We are going down to Oregon to my brother's house to celebrate the birthday of his girlfriend, who is a part of the family as well, and because he just remodeled his deck and back yard and put in a cool garden, so we are going to all go hang out and wish her a Happy birthday and gawk at his beautiful deck. My brother loves to entertain and does most of the family gatherings, it is a congenial place and he loves to barbeque and serve fine wine. I'm bringing deviled eggs (of course) but I bought a super-cute serving plate at the goodwill, specially designed for deviled eggs, it was "chirping" my name from the shelf. I'll try to get a picture of it. I'm also bringing a giant bowl of just berries, I got them from the local market yesterday and they are so fresh and good. I couldn't decide what to do with them and finally decided they were great plain and I'm bringing them more as an appetizer in a pretty bowl. Everything else will be kind of heavy and it is a hot day so I think the fruit will go over well. I'm irritated that my hearing went back out, it would have been so convenient to be able to hear well today. It never lands on the right day. Oh well, can't have everything all at once anymore.
We are having one of those days that makes visitors want to move here....mid 70s to mid 80s expected today, slight breeze, clear skies except for some pretty fluffy clouds. Perfect weather. I know many of you are suffering and I shouldn't gloat, but remember we go through those days and days and days of rain before we get to this warm spell, so we earned it.
The animals are good: Duck is still on her nest, four bunny kits are so stinkin' cute it is hard to stand, my goats are getting fat with beautiful shiny coats, and my EEs are just the prettiest chickens on earth. I really love the EEs. Some more of these must be roos, they are so gorgeous. I'm pretty sure the one FF identified for me being a cockerel is a male for sure now. But I was hoping for one more male, with 24 total I think I need at least two roos, and I have at least four, so that gives me two spares. The one that I was calling the ugly duckling is actually getting very interesting looking now. I'll have to put up his picture when he gets his full feathers. I'm thinking perhaps his shy personality will be a good thing, he won't challenge the other, red and white cockerel, so perhaps they can coexist peacefully. My speckled sussex are also turning out gorgeous. They were kind of an impulse buy but I'm very happy about them now. They are calm, sweet birds and are great foragers, and so beautiful to behold in the sunlight. I really have such a pretty flock right now since I've switched breeds. My four older RIR hens are still my friendliest ones however, and still lay at least 3 a day between the four of them.
I'm going to milk the goats three times today and try Karen's idea. I think the goats are going to LOVE being called in for extra food! I'm going to try to milk as fast as I can and just give them enough to empty them out and scoot them back outside. It should be interesting to see how this works, but it makes perfect sense, I don't know why I didn't think of that myself before.
Have a good Sunday everyone!
