Sophie did really well. Progressive blindness gave her time to adapt, so she never slowed down even a step until her heart made her. She would even still chase horses
I'll have to see if I can find the pics of her ready for me to throw her toy... because she would still fetch like a fiend.

But I'll stop hijacking SDs thread now :D

Jager, wirehaired pointing griffon. She has been the best hunting dog ever. She is a freak though. Love her!! She is 11 years old.

What cuties, Miss the north! Thanks for sharing. And you are not hijacking my thread, AL, I was going to add that I had a blind dog foster, he has an interesting story I'll have to share sometime. I think everyone will like his story, Joey was really special.

I owe some thanks for comments on my pics a few pages back!!
Great pictures of all the dogs. I just love dogs. Sigh.....
I do love my pug but he's not the smartest thing. I swear that hard round head is nothing but skull. NO brain at all. We went a while between the first one and Stan and I swore I wouldn't get another. Yeah, right.
DS really wants another small dog. We're full up at 3 but 2 are getting up there. Aside from the pugs I've never had small dogs. It would have to stand up to the bouncy Golden. We met a cute little Shih Tzu type dog when we went to get hay yesterday. Friendly, never barked, cute and bright. Didn't look like a farm dog but it sure was! I'd love to get him a little dog like that. I think it was a mix.

Aw.....pugs are one of the cutest little dogs! I fostered a pair, Tiffy and Dukie, who belonged to a friend of mine who passed away. They were very hard to potty train though.

Two of my favorite dogs from the boarding kennel where I worked were a pair of pugs that were "regulars". They are such funny little dogs.

When The Wife and I first got together back around '95 She had Sophie the Golden, I had Dottie the Dalmation/Lab mix, and we rescued/adopted Gretchen the Husky. Here they are.

We lost Dot first, then about a year later Gretch had a stroke. Poor old Soph was about 13 then, and the losses just devastated her. She was an only dog for the first time in her life. That's when we decided to get Ginger snap. Here is Sophie giving Ginger a life lesson.

6 months later we lost Soph. We knew we were never going to be without a Golden Retriever, but Ginger was still only 6 months old. Since I work at home, the training fell mostly to me and we decided to wait until Ginger Snap was a little more under control before adding Gracie Sue to our pack. Here is Princess Grace ruling over her domain.

Then we heard about a Lab rescue up in Michigan that needed a foster home for two Labs that they were going to try to keep together. We fostered Vinnie and Shirley Ann, found a home for sweet boy Vinnie within a week(Great family with 2 boys that LOVE him pieces!) That was when we discovered we are TERRIBLE foster parents because we fall in love and keep the critters.
Let me introduce Shirley Ann.

The whole crew. Shirley is standing, Ginger is beside her on the floor and The Swamp Collie, aka The Princess, aka Gracie Sue is down in front.

This is John Boy, a Black and Tan I rescued this past fall. Starved and had the bark beaten out of him, he was still the sweetest dog and very tough for us to rehome, but he went to friends so we have lifetime visitation rights with him!!

Skr8pn, those are wonderful pictures! I love how you told the story of your dogs through photos. Sophie looked so much like my Raider! And you are a fellow rescuer! Bless you...

I'm glad to see we have plenty of fans for the retrievers!

I'm glad to see your poodle Free, I heard you had one! I love those standards especially. I don't know why I had you pictured with a small one. I like it when they don't have poodle cuts. My very first dog of my entire life was a standard poodle mix. My parents brought her home when I was three and she was still around when I moved out at 18.
