Back in the day, when Dottie Dog was still a pup, in one of the obedience classes I helped teach, there was a black standard poodle named Paris.
Smartest stinking dog I have ever seen! VERY attentive and NEVER missed a command for anything! I have the utmost respect for standard poodles. Now the little foo-foo ankle biting versions are another thing entirely.

I adore all these dog pictures from everyone. I'm so glad I asked to see. I'm such a huge dog lover.

Regarding poodles, I think I better tell Joey's story after all these pictures of our dogs are played out. I think there are still more of us who have not posted their dog pics.

There was a thread over at BYC regarding why people have chickens. A bunch of SS kind of people were chiming in and I let them know to check us out over here.

I made that Mexican sauce from the tamale recipe - it IS :drool I put it on the sour cream enchiladas and we had Mexican comfort food at it's finest. I promise I will try tamales some day!

I love the dog photos too.

We seriously LICK that sauce off the plates.

And I'm a crummy cook!

I think everyone is enjoying the dog pictures. What is the universal appeal of the dog?

I'm glad to see your poodle Free, I heard you had one! I love those standards especially. I don't know why I had you pictured with a small one. I like it when they don't have poodle cuts. My very first dog of my entire life was a standard poodle mix. My parents brought her home when I was three and she was still around when I moved out at 18.
Actually, he is an oversized miniature! At a slim muscular weight, he is 28 lbs, so almost double-oversized! We have both dogs shaved down and left with a little moustache and beard, like a terrier. So cute and much more efficient on the farm. The curly hair holds a LOT of shavings, hay, leaves, and poop! :p

I'll get a pic of Biscuit later. Most of our pics of him are of a white blur with flying ears since he is always running! I made him sit on a walk this fall so I could get a pic, I'll try to find it.

I love all the pictures of the pups.

Roy and I have always had retired racing greyhounds as our canine "fur-kids". Actually, on our first (blind) date, Roy told me that he planned on adopting a greyhound once he had his own home. Our first greyhounds adopted us during the pre-digital age so I have no pictures to post. They were both retired from two jobs: first racing then blood donors. Wheat and Icabod were in the blood donor program at Colorado State University Vet School in Fort Collins, CO. We adopted them before there was much information out there regarding greyhounds and the special collars (martingale collars) made for "thick-necked" dogs with skinny heads, so they both had your standard leather clasp collars. Our first greyhound, Wheat, was hit by a car when he managed to get out of his collar when he saw a tasty rabbit. We lost Icabod at age 11 to hemangiosarcoma.

Before I rattle on, here are pictures of the rest of the hounds that have owned us.

Scarlett: Her racing name was Cab's Peg Bundy. She was in a home for about two years where she was sorely neglected before she was turned over the the adoption agency. We felt that she no way looked like a big-haired red head that liked to lay on the couch eating bon-bons (even though she did lay on the couch all day;) ), so we kept the name she came with.

The first picture is of her dressed up as Scarlett O'Hara for a doggy costume contest at a greyhound gathering. She took to riding around in a wagon after she was diagnosed with a spindle cell cancer on her leg. She believed her fans could adore her so much more while she rode around in her wagon. We lost her in 2005 to a very tragic accident.

Rhett: His racing name was Kiowa Day Juice. I couldn't see keeping his "pet name" of Juice. Too many people may associate a black dog named Juice who happens to kill bunnies with a human that was often times called Juice. So, since we had Scarlett, we needed Rhett.

The first picture is of Rhett in his Rhett Butler costume. We lost him at age 14 to old age.

Finally Dixie: Her racing name was Pazzo Dixie. She is our special girl. She is 9 years old. Dixie retired from racing when she broke her leg. Dixie borders between very shy and spooky. She spends a lot of time in her "cave" in the bedroom between the bed and a dresser. She loves her family, but strangers are another story. I know she needs to get out more but without me having a job, the nearest greyhound meet 'n greet is more than 40 miles away and the cost of gas is too much. She is not comfortable at all walking in public by her self. Rhett helped her so much in that respect. Hopefully in the spring we will adopt a greyhound buddy for her.

Greyhounds are perfect for us because they are so lazy. They sleep more than cats, yet they can outrun a Corvette 0 - 45 mph. They have two speeds: stop and go. Many people think they must be hyper, but they are not.

Sorry for such a long post.

Around the chickens and ducks etc, he doesn't even lift and eyebrow. They literally do walk on him. Of course, never when I have a camera handy, but,.... With the bigger animals, he wants to herd them, and he has helped us round up the sheep when we were rotating them on pasture this past summer. He was actually quite good at it.

Rocky really is a bit of a freak too. Since we have lived here, his favourite toys are logs. We have a wood pile out back, and he will go and take a log (or 10) and play with them. I probably do have around 10 lying around the property where he will leave them when he's done playing with them. People have a fear /respect thing happening when they see him playing with his logs. he will trot around the yard with this thing in ihis mouth like it is nothing. and here it weighs more than 10 lbs.

Her ehe is playing with his log. I have videos, too, but don't know if I can upload them.
