Thanks to ideas gleaned from this forum, I advertised a couple of times on craigslist. Today I picked up 7 1/2 dozen canning jars, traded them for 3 pairs of earrings that I made for about $2.00 each. And I had to insist that the lady choose three pairs, she thought that was too much.

So now I am no longer completely jealous of all your "scores!" I have another 3 dozen jars waiting for me an hour's drive away, so we will pick those up when we have to go that way anyways, in a few weeks.

It pays to be consistent and patient (although I am not sure exactly what being patient really means....)

Thanks for all the ideas found here and all your experiences, SOOOO helpful!!!

I thought I got a free deal on canning jars until I realized they were mayonnaise jars that canning lids wouldn't fit! Boxes of them, grrr.
I'm still looking for your luck! ;)

Are you sure your canning lids won't fit? We canned in mayo jars for years and my mom still does! Mom says she has never had a mayo jar explode or break on her, but has had several "real" canning jars do so.

Good score, Free! Feels good doesn't it? :celebrate

When my mom comes up this spring, I'm going to have her bring me more of her canning jars......you'll die to hear this......she has several bunches of canning jars in trays next to her "junk pile"(things dad stores just in case he needs them!) in the woods behind her house.

 You must understand that this woman used to can approx. 400-500 qts of produce every summer when we lived off grid....so she has quite a collection. She had already given me some before, but I think I'll scrounge the rest of them.
