Yup, same here....gotta keep checking or post your own wanted ad. The guy my dad got these jars from originally asked $0.50 each for them....filthy jars full of dead spiders, crickets, dirt, and mouse poo! No lids or rings! I can get them for that at Walmart if you consider the lids and rings. So that is what I said to tell the guy. He ended up giving them all to me. I think he was cleaning out a shed or barn in preparation for moving and they didn't sell in a tag sale.

The last of them will go into the dishwasher soon. I had to scrub each one once or twice with a brush and a gentle cleaning pad before putting into the dishwasher. Most of the quarts are widemouth, and the antique ones are all widemouth pints! I didn't have any of those. So cool. There were a few, maybe 4-5, old mayo jars. They are much thicker than modern mayo jars. I bet they used to make them with home-canners in mind to get people to buy their brand.

I only had to throw 4-5 away so far. It is a MAJOR score! Just wait until they are all FULL!!!! :weee

Anyone know where I can get replacement BAILS? I found a couple of 2 qt ball jars. No gasket or bail but the jar and lids are in perfect shape. I have a place for replacement gaskets, but where do I get the wire part??

Yes, please, I have a couple of bail-less jars, and a couple of lidless ones, too! I call them flower vases....

We aren't supposed to use the bail type anymore, are we? I've got tons of them, my mother always put tomatoes up in them.

I use them for storing dry goods and dried herbs, also I transfer my ferments into them. For example, I have three pints of diced fermented garlic and three of mixed herbs, fermented, for salad dressing and I just discovered that it is awesome in drained kefir. Gonna try it in chevre, too. My nephew wanted to try a bit straight....fun to see him gag!

I have about 10 or so with herbs like parsley, oregano, red clover blossoms, nettles, and comfrey. I love the look of them.

Another great canning score for me today! For lots of you, this might be the normal price you pay, but for me, it is significantly cheaper, even when I buy in bulk. I have a zillion stored, but at this price, I couldn't turn them down.......cases of lids for $0.99!!! I got 26 regular mouth and 17 widemouth, bought them all. And found two flannel-lined cotton shirts for $3 each, one for dh and one for my dad! These shirts retailed for almost $30! :weee

I just got about 6 dozen from my neighbor in this exact condition. They were in her attic for 20 years. There are tons of mouse droppings and actual nests of shredded paper. I just try not to think of food eventually being in them as I scrub them out and then stick them on sanitize cycle in the dishwasher.

What a great score for you!

Those jars I got are all filled now, and I have been using the half-gallons a lot for storing milk and making ferments. I love them! I still have a bunch of the antique half-pints to fill, but I put my ferments into them when done and I still have a bunch of herbs and stuff to dry. You can never have too many jars! Especially when you have a dh who breaks a couple a month... :rant But he does almost all the dishes, so it is a good price to pay, since with all my cooking and canning, I make a mess!
