Sheri, good break on the goats and pup. Thats what I love the most a about my animals, it seems like just when you need money the most someone is knocking on your door to buy something. Hope your mouth side effect gets better.

I've been riding a roller coaster the past few days, but I expected that. I knew the first treatment would be something of an experiment, to see what side effects I would have and how severe they would be. For each cancer drug, the literature lists the side effects as "common", "less common," and "rare." Unfortunately, it looks like I'm going be putting up with some side effects that are in the less common category, like the mouth problems. So far, the worst has been the muscle pain. Monday was especially bad. My back muscles felt like they were two sizes too small and were so badly knotted up, I was having trouble breathing. Thanks to our limited medical facilities here in rural Sask., it took forever to see the doctor, but I finally got a shot of Torodol, an excellent pain killer/muscle relaxant. The doc also prescribed some meds for me and they're helping too.

Good news on the baler. I picked up the parts after seeing the doctor on Monday. They were a little more expensive than I expected, but they wont' need replacing again for a very long time, so it wasn't too bad. Got the right wire for the lacing, too, and the baler seems to be working great now. I baled about half a bale yesterday, but the hay was so dry it was shattering, which means all the good stuff (alfalfa leaves, etc) were blowing away. Going to try again this morning while there's still a bit of dew on the ground.

What's worrying me is how little hay there is out there. On a field that has in the past given the equivalent of 10 or more round bales, I'll be lucky to get one this year. I sure hope the other fields are better or I'll be really scrambling for feed this year.

Still, there is something enormously gratifying to feed the animals hay I put up myself. It's a wonderful SS feeling, not to mention a heck of a lot less expensive!

Sheri I hope you are feeling better :hugs

I also hope your other field is producing more for you so that you do not have to spend a lot on feed!

I had a very scary, worry filled morning, but thankfully everything turned out okay. When I went to do the morning chores, Smiley, my big male LGD and his 5 month old son, Harry, were nowhere to be found. Now, it's not unheard of for Smiley to be off on patrol in the morning, but he's never taken Harry with him before and I just had a funny feeling. Went back out a couple of hours later to work on the creep feed and still no dogs. Then I was really worried.

I drove all over the area for about three or four miles in every direction and by noon I was starting to feel sick. Smiley has never been gone that long before, not even when one of the girl dogs escaped while in heat and took him for a joy ride clear over to the neighbors 4 miles from here. It was especially weird because the girls are in heat again right now and kenneled to avoid mating so he's been sticking very close to home lately.

I had to run to town to get milk and when I got home and they still weren't here, I began to assume the worst. I asked DH if he wanted to go for a walk with me and Fynn, my Australian Shepherd. I was pretty well certain both Smiley and Harry must be dead but I thought maybe Fynn would find them by smell. Fynn took us on a merry jaunt through some of the deepest bush on the property but I finally turned back toward home, as a storm was blowing in. We got back down to the fence line but had to skirt around it to get to a part that wasn't electrified. As we were coming around the fence, I looked across the pasture and saw what looked like one of the dogs at the food dish on the far side.

Sure enough, once we were able to get past the electrified part of the fence and cut through the pasture, we found both dogs at their usual hangout on the driveway. I was SO happy! :ya

By this time, it was two o'clock in the afternoon and that's at least 4 hours longer than Smiley has ever been gone before and since it was the first time Harry has ever gone with him, I just assumed something terrible had happened. I'm so glad I was wrong.

Both dogs are pooped out and hungry, so they must have had quite the adventure, but I sure wish they'd realize how much I worry when they take off like that!

Well I'm glad they are home and are ok. I sure hope they don't pull another stunt like that on you though!
