geese................................geese...........and...hhmmmmm......oh yeah, more geese! We have 3 large ponds near by that migrating canadian and snow geese put on their route every year. One is about 1/8 mile down the road but I have a clear view. I love watching them, my grandfather always stopped and looked up when ever he heard them. Last week my youngest and I were outside in the late afternoon during the ' fly in' and it was awesome. They were right over top of the house, real close. Must have seen 20 flocks in 1/2 hour. And this year tons of snow geese, I dont think Ive ever seen them before just this year they must have tagged along with the Canadians.

The wonderful aroma of chicken and turkey litter on the fields, along with the Lord of the Flies hatch of fly maggots that go along with it! :sick :somad
my dad is guilty of this around here. Its such great fertilizer for the fields. If the flys are a problem go to a farm store like Tractor Supply and ask for Fly poison. Its granulated, you put it out on a board or something large, make sure its not where animals or kids can get into it. It works great.

My sisters husband thinks is so hysterical that us 3 sisters can indentify animal poop by the smell alone. City boy.

I just remembered, years ago when the first commercial chicken barn when in around here the neighbors complained to the township so much that he was required to make fly traps on his property. Its basically a 55gal drum with meat in the bottom to attract them. The way in is a cone which is so small at the bottom they cant get back out.

I'll check into that....but I have my doubts if fly poison can affect the gazillion flies that result from this in the spring and again in the fall.

In one half hour, my son and I killed over 300 flies on my porch alone! Let alone in the house.....this is just a typical day after the hatch. Takes about 2-3 weeks for this to thin down and the house is a miserable place to be when this happens. :(
