All of my friends think I am crazy for trying to have a big garden and stock up on things and getting animals for food.
All of mine do too except for one. Her and I are doing some seed and plant swapping. She is shopping for a new deep freeze and stocking her pantry.

You know, I live in a very tight knit community to which I am not a thread. DH and I are " outsiders" Neither of us were born, or raised in these parts. Seems everyone else is related one way or another. I have tried talking to a few people around here...about being more SS, and I get the " are you crazy and from where?" look. One woman asked me if I was running a COMMUNE!! UGH! Another woman had the NERVE to ask where I was from, and just how I could THINK of such bad things. So, for now, I dont tell anyone of our plans...we just plug along...and do what WE need to do for us and ours. I will stock up on canning supplies...heritage seeds..and ways to feed our animals and us. Not that I wouldn't help someone if I can...but, I wont let MY family go hungry, trying to help those who didnt help themselves. My grandpa used to always say...."I will give a man a crutch, but I wont hold it up for him." Grampa was a very smart farmer. Oh, and I am makeing a sign for the chicken coops.... " If you are hungry, just ask. If I catch you stealing, I WILL shoot!" Straight and to the point!
On the clip, we use dialup....so I cant view the video....is that something I might could find at the library!??

I was in a training class all day today today for my CCW permit, so this is the first I have had a chance to check in on this thread.
Thank GOD I am not alone!! First of all, to any and all naysaysers, you need to just give them a DVD copy of this documentary and ask that they watch it. Explain to them that even if only 1/4 of what is in there is true, we are in deep doo-doo. Please, for gosh sakes, DON'T let them keep on believing the lies and deceit that is spewing from our government. Do whatever you can to enlighten them. This is THE most important fight we will face in our lifetimes, and if we lose this one, our children and their children and their children will be slaves for as long as they live. Period. End of subject.

DON'T GIVE UP!!!! Keep on fighting the fight and get this information out to everyone you come in contact with.

We use to have dial-up :barnie and I was able view things on youtube but I had to download it all the way first (it may take a few minutes) then once it was completed I would just click replay and it would replay with no problems. If you could find the DVD it may be faster since there is 12 videos.

I am surprised they didn't just have everyone go on TV and sing "Don't Worry, Be Happy"

I think wanting to be self sufficient is in my blood. Both my parents were children in Europe during WWII. They HAD to be scroungers and self sufficient in order to survive.
When we moved to the States, we loved it that my grandparents had property in the country in upstate New York. Before long we all moved there from New York city and lived simply. We were happy to have the opportunity, and proud that we had the brains to do it. We learned from the locals and taught them a thing or two. My parents income was WAY below the poperty level, yet we never lacked a thing. My sister and I were the best dressed girls in our school, along with one other girl. All three of us sewed our own clothes.
People often wondered how we could afford to go to the special and expensive butcher to get special meats. We grew most everything else ourselves and processed it for storage ourselves. We hunted (sort of) and gathered (there were tons of wild apple trees) We traded work for product.
I still like to live that way. I am glad to have found a partner who agrees a lot of the time. He was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth, so we don't always see eye to eye.
I don't like to watch alarming, even if somewhat true shows about what I think this Obama video is about.
Years ago Helen and Scott Nearing went back to the land and wrote some wonderfull books about their endeavor. They included a bit of political rhetoric and I agree with them. And it is still true today. The essence of some of it is: The rich and powerfull need to make sure most of the population is poor and needy, that way they always have people available to do their dirty work for them at next to no wages.
I don't care to make money for anyone else. I do my own thing and don't want to depend on anyone else, that way I won't be disappointed when "they" don't come through for me.
I love my life and don't mind working hard. It feels great when I can say: "I did it myself!"
I don't expect this recession to go away anytime soon. I am preparing for the long haul. ;)
