I watched Alex's piece. I had listened to Alex Jones for several years, bought a Big Berkey Filter from his site in 2005.

I must say that none of this is really new material for Alex, except the substitution of Obama where Bush's name was. IMO, if Alex was truly onto something he would have been silenced long ago.

If this video is what motivates someone to become more self sufficient and to prepare by stockpiling for a year, then it has served a good purpose. If it is scaring someone into a panic driven buying impulse than it is over the top.
I think this forum is a better place to get your information than the video. Here you can ask questions and get a variety to choose from.

I haven't seen the video (dial-up :(). One thing I have noticed around here (my town), though, is that panic begets panic. Our stores are now completely out of ammunition. My hunter husband visited another one yesterday, where the clerk told him a guy had just walked out wtih $1000 worth of ammo. That news spreads, everyone else causes a run on ammunition, which depletes it all, further causing people to panic.

I'm sure there are legit reasons to be worried, but worry and panic really are self-fulfilling prophecies and cause even more worry and panic.

This started back in Nov the day after the election. The manufacturers can't make it fast enough. Along with gun sales going way up since then too. Some stores have bare walls & display cases they can't fill up. I even heard one sporting goods store owner on tv say he had a waiting list for ammo, so when he does get it in they do not put it out on display, they call the customers & he has to limit how much he sells to a single customer so he can cover more customers. The store owner also said once a customer picked up their ammo they were asking to be put back on the list.

Years ago Helen and Scott Nearing went back to the land and wrote some wonderfull books about their endeavor. They included a bit of political rhetoric and I agree with them. And it is still true today. The essence of some of it is: The rich and powerfull
You do realize that the Nearings had plenty of money themselves to live however they choose, right? They weren't the honest to goodness back to the landers they presented themselves as. Check out the book Meanwhile, Next Door to the Good Life, by Jean Hay Bright, for the background info.

Mind you I have nothing against the Nearings other than really disliking their socialist political rants (I couldn't read Living the Good Life, the politics totally turned me off). I just want people to realize the Nearings weren't just living off their land, they were living off their investments. Typical of people who think their way is the only right way, and who want to spread their way around to everyone - so they can continue to grow their investments. If they truly lived what they preached, it would be wonderful. Communism is a lovely concept, except for human nature and greed constantly getting in the way.

There are animals on the farm, and then there are Animals on the Farm. Always.

Last year my son and I discussed the possibility of Obama getting elected, and compared that outlook to when Clinton was in office. Suspecting that it may happen again, my son took a part time job in a gun store. Since he has a good regular job, is single, and has no rent or other expenses, he was able to do bit of speculating on gun and ammo purchases.

All of the particular long guns that he purchased have tripled in price over the last four months. If congress reinstates the previously expired ban, and you can bet that they will probably do so within the next four years, I would look for them to double or triple again.

Even if their values do not increase any more, or if they drop back to their original prices, it sure beat investing in the markets. He calls them his new 401K's.

Some gun manufacturing company ought to come out with a new gun during these times and call it the 401K. :D

It is astonishing how much things have gone up, including reloading components. Things we bought two years ago for $65 are now selling for $350 (I am not going to list what we have purchased). Suffice it to say our gun collection and reloading components have done nothing but gone up in value. We aren't looking to add anything, we're all set.

And Tallman, I love your idea, the 401K! :gig

These new gun prices sure do suck! 15 years ago I had to sell a substantial gun collection to finance a divorce. Since that day I have been slowly rebuilding that collection. I started getting really serious the day of the election. The local gun store just started limiting the amount of ammo you can purchase at one time, so I take the wife with me to double my buying power. We just got home from our latest trip.

Yep, I bought an Colt AR shorty for about $450, a year or so before Clinton got in office. A friend offered to purchase it, after the ban, for $1400, and I sold it. Three years ago, he offered it back to me for $800, and I bought it. Recently I was offered $2500, and almost sold it again. I decided to keep it.

It may or may not go up, but I'd have a hard time ever buying another if they do. So an AR in the hand, is better than... well, wishing for one. :D
