So I'm thinking of opening a camp. Maybe.

I can see it now!

"This weekends workshop is how to muck out a barn stall!"

or

"This weekends workshop is how to build a chicken coop!"

or

"This weekends workshop is how to till a garden and pick rock! (By hand!)"

or

"This weekend, we're planting the garden"

or

"Chopping firewood"

I could go on and on and on and on.....

...........like the energizer bunny........

I think this would be just the thing for SS dabblers like me. I like the concepts to a large extent but have never really done most of these things. I would love to learn.

I think what I was originally thinking was giving people a "taste of my life" so to speak.

We don't have running water, we haul it in. Shower maybe once a week at a friends house, rest of the time we sponge bath in our sink....

Not many people have the "hardships" that we face each day, and I think that's what I was thinking when I first thought "camp". Having people come out and see how it is to live with very little, and still survive the hour, day, week, month, year.

hikerchick, we're not far from PA. :)

I was thinking that exact thing, QA. Ohio is driving distance, even for my old heap.

I think the three day thing would be good- enough to get a taste of your life but not enough to leave me weeping.

A three day taste of my life might do it :gig

Seriously, only a couple of people here have seen our life first hand. I hear all the time, "I don't know how you do it."

I'm tired of hearing those words. I'm ready for people to come and SEE and experience "how we do it".

Hikerchick, wanna free weekend trial?!

I know there is tons of info on that website. FIRST and MOST IMPORTANT ~NEVER sell yourself short. If you look, the least expensive class is $85 for one day on learning how to farm with horses. $100 for a week with meals is WAY TOO CHEAP!! (Just don't make your pricing structure so expensive that I can't come ;) )

I do agree with everyone else, it would be easier for me to come up for 1-3 days rather than a week. I think that is more doable for most people who would want to come. Also, like you said, it's easier to get rid of someone who isn't working out. Do you already have a place where they could stay -like a bunkhouse, an extra barn stall  or would they stay in a hotel and then just come out for the day?

One thing for sure....if the SHTF, you are definitely in a great position to survive it! It won't be nearly as hard for you as it will be for most of us.
