Don't forget "stickers", snakes(!)* lots of them, scorpions, mosqitoes, giant flying roaches, angry drivers in giant trucks, hurricanes, the heat and humidity that wont give up for 10 months out of the year, tornados**...

I could go on and on about why I hate Texas... :tongue

*I got bit by a water moccasin when I was a teenager.
**I was also in a tornado. :tongue :tongue :tongue
Well, I grew up in Iowa so tornadoes don't even phase me but they have some kind of giant waterbug thing down there too-looks like a giant cockroach but they come crawling out of drains and live in bathrooms....(shudder)
Do you know I had never seen a cockroach until I moved to Texas?

Hey hey.....careful! We have some Texas members on here, and I was born in San Antonio, and then lived there two more times and Amarillo once.

Fire ants: tried to eat my baby brother once - I'll never forget his screaming while Mom and I tried to put him in the bathtub to get them off of him. And she said that as a baby, I was always being threatened by scorpions.

And I'll always fondly remember the tornado that went around us across the field, in Amarillo, while we were hiding in the bathroom under a mattress....or our beagle who ran away at least once a week to chase jack rabbits. Them jack's are HUGE!!

Ok...it isn't yankee RUDENESS...it is yankee BLUNTNESS! Up north we had to talk fast and get to the point before your lips froze!!!

Now, other than that....

Tornados: From WI. Dealt with them on a regular basis. Had to explain to NY hubby how to handle those. He had no clue!

Brown Recluse Spiders: Have those in CO. Also black widows.

Snakes: We do have rattlesnakes. At least they warn you. Not so sure about those water moccasins! YIKES!!

Mosquitos: Again..from WI. It's the state freaking bird!!! CO mosquitos are wimpy :D

Christian Conservatives: I live in one of the evangelical capitals of the world. Most are polite and some are even close friends despite my heathen tendencies. They do give me that "I really like you. It's a shame you are going to burn in hell for all eternity" look once in a while, but we surprisingly get along and can even talk politics!

Rednecks: I grew up with the Wisconsin Rednecks and now I live among Colorado Rednecks. They are pretty similar. Half my family would be considered redneck. I think giving someone a live goose for a wedding present and turning it loose during the reception makes you a redneck. Ditto for considering new bib overalls "formal wear". (Gotta love Uncle Kenny!!)

As for finding an island and turning pirate. Tempting!!!!

Thanks everyone :D

Humidity is something we would have to think about. Hubby and I both came from humid areas and really like the lower humidity in Colorado. I could stand a little more than what I have now, but couldn't go back to being as wet after I shower as I was in the shower. :D

For those who hated Texas, what did you hate about it? Any details?
Glad you asked. Lived there for 7 years. It looks best in your rear view mirror.
1. Heat is terrible. You can go out at 10PM and it is still oppressive. Had a nice bike when I lived there and going 80 miles an hour without a fairing I always had sweat pouring off me.
2. Fire Ants. Can't get rid of them. They just move their nest, makes it hard to walk across your yard without shoes.
3. Fake Cowboys and their pick up trucks. Place is full of guys that live in apartments driving around with big cowboy hats and boots in 2 pick up trucks. Usually rude and obnoxious. They also keep their hats on in theaters. Jerks.
4. People can't drive on snow at all.
5. Mesquite trees everywhere. They look like trees with a really bad case of arthritis.
6. People talk funny.
7. The only hills are overpasses. With the exception of overpasses.
8. Messed up political ideology.

Good stuff
1. They have a coastline. Once you get south of Galveston it even has some pretty areas. Water is full of oil though. Oil in the sand too.
2. No state tax.
3. No garnishment of wages from creditors.
4. You can drive for hours without seeing a tree.
5. Lot's of dead Armadillos laying around.

I only go there to visit my Mother and daughter.

You already live in the best state Wifezilla. You won't find this nice of weather or Mountains like ours anywhere. I would advise moving to Boulder though.

Check out this map.

I think we need to be somewhere in that white strip. Or maybe the light yellow. NOT up north though! Been there done that :D

That would give me more rain than I get now (orange area) but not so much I am miserable.

You know now that I think about it.... and after seeing your map. It seems like all the places that I like run along the same latitude.

No. Cal, southern Utah, Colorado, right on over to SE Missouri. I have not been past that yet. :D

Seems to me that your white line runs right through tornado alley. That would make me nervous.

The people I liked! It is the rest that I couldn't take after living there for 35+ years. (I lived in Houston, Dallas, Austin, and a small town too.)

One more reason (and probably the biggest) for me to hate TX---my ex lives there! The roaches, the blistering heat and hurricanes are almost as bad though. :p

I grew up in a tornado area. It really doesn't bother me too much. If you have a good basement, you are good to go :D
