hqueen - I am horrible about pictures! I MEANT to take before and after shots, but didn't
DS#2 and I are still very sick. That seems to be a big negative to Christmas with DH's family. Out of his sister's seven kids, at least one is always sick, no matter what time of the year it is. It also never fails that DS picks it up and generously passes it along to me. At least I have a decent excuse for not doing much right now
I did can up 3/4 of the leftover ham DH got for Christmas from his company. It is always huge, and I usually freeze it - and promptly forget it - and find the freezer burnt remains much, much later! I plan to cut up and slice what is left and dehydrate it. Good chance to experiment with 'free' meat.
I actually got several compliments on my food this year- mostly by my MIL, who I think feels guilty and is trying to butter me up. She liked my homemade bread (she and FIL took it home because DH's sister doesn't like 'homemade' ) and my fruitcake- cupcakes. The inlaws also came over on Christmas day, and I made light snacks that got rave reviews from all present. It is my firm belief that you can't go wrong with bacon!
Never heard a peep from my Dad at Christmas. He called and left a message saying he realized he had forgotten DS's birthday (AFTER being told by my brother, no doubt ) and would send out a card. That was 2 weeks ago. No card. No call. I suppose I COULD HAVE called him. Well, actually I can't right now- our only long distance is on our cells, which don't work here. The landline is minimal - no long distance or extras (and STILL $54 a month!). Guess I'm just being stubborn, and coming up with excuses. The guy is 70+ years old, had cancer, had multiple strokes. Yet, here I am, acting like he'll be around forever, so I can ignore him and pout for a while until I get over things
