DH got sent home yesterday, due to reaching his max hours in 4 days, so he is zipping around trying to finish a bunch of projects today. Wish I had half his energy and drive!

None of my carrots came up in the big garden :/ So today I am going to try to plant some of my *homegrown seedlings* in that row. They are still kinds small and puny looking, but I hope they do well. I think I'll split the Heinz tomatoes - half in the big garden, half in the little bit of SFG I have left (I purposely left it empty, so I could fill it with strawberry runners). I have only managed to get 1 quart of strawberries so far, which is a little disappointing. I keep basing things off my garden at the house we used to live at up here, but DH pointed out that my strawberry patch there was A LOT bigger. Can't go pick strawberries locally (the bending over + heat = not good things for me :p ) so I guess I'll have to buy some, as we are down to 3 1/2 pints of jam left in the freezer, and that's only because I put the Whoa! on DS#2 eating jelly on crackers/biscuits 10 times a day!

Found a great bread recipe for DS#2 and I. Makes a smallish loaf that is still soft and fresh after three days, so yay! We gobbled up the loaf I made Monday, but DH asked if I'd make another so he can try it - not sure I want to do that! I have never had good luck doubling a bread recipe for some reason, and I would have to for his loaf, if he decided it liked that better. :/

I tried an experiment yesterday, for a different forum I'm on, and thought I'd post the results here too.

For a side with dinner, I made deviled eggs. With the 4 1/2 month old oiled eggs. Just a heads up: I am a taste/texture person. If either one is off, I won't eat it. DH is more smell/taste. His parents came for dinner so, lucky them, they got to join the experiment. DS has always hated deviled eggs, so he was out.

First, I noticed that the eggs had 'absorbed' the oil somewhat. Since mineral oil can be used as a laxative, I was worried about that, but no ill effects... yet! :p I scrubbed them, with a drop of Dawn, in hot water. Placed them in the pot and boiled them. Noticed a small 'oil slick' on top of the water. :/ Rinsed them well. They were horrible to peel! Worse than really fresh eggs! I made the 'filling' exactly the same as I usually do. Smell: DH said they smelled normal  Taste: The tasted like a very bland deviled egg. Everybody agreed that it was like something was missing, or not enough of something was used, but nobody could put their finger on what (was missing/needed more of ) :hu Since they passed both of DH's tests, he had 8 of them. Texture: This is what got me. I was expecting a overly rubbery white. Nope. Filling was firm, but the white was mush! Cooked the exact same time as my usual eggs, so my guess is, it's just the way it is after that long. I managed to eat one, but couldn't get past the texture. The in-laws only had one each, as they were less than thrilled to be made a part of the experiment

Only managed to plant 6 tomatoes. :( Baked up a loaf of bread, DH loved it, so I had to double the recipe and make him a loaf for work. Next time, I will go with 1 1/2 X, not double. It grew out and over the pan, while it was baking  I must say, it would be good if DH sticks with this one, as it is easy and requires less ingredients. (Hey, BB - it's a Jackie Clay recipe ;) )

Tomorrow, my Father-in-law is taking me in 'to the big, BIG city' to see the specialist. I hate that city. The streets are confusing, the traffic is horrid and there are too many people everywhere!! FIL said he doesn't mind it, and they drive a MUCH smaller vehicle (there is NO WAY my beast would've fit in a parking ramp spot, let alone made those sharp corners and junk!). I think I've convinced DS to go with us. There is a large museum just a few blocks away from where I have to go. DS and FIL have never been there (DH took DS#1 and I there eons ago), so I thought it would be something fun/nice for Grampa and DS to do together. That way, FIL isn't stuck waiting for me for hours, and DS gets an educational 'field trip' :D

Interesting experiment.....how old are those eggs, what age were they when you oiled them?

I oiled them on 2/16/12 (thankfully, I wrote it on the carton!), so they were not quite 4 1/2 months old. I had gathered them over two days. I picked the cleanest ones, as washing them/over handling is supposed to be a no-no.
I wanted to wait until the 6 month mark, but I was being nagged :D I will set the next batch I plan to try (for baking/cooking with, which I think they'll be better for) in a bit more of a hiding spot - so they will be out of hubster's sight and he'll stop pestering me to try them

I used J.C.'s italian bread recipe - I didn't hold out much hope that DH would like it, as it had OO in it (just 2 T ), but he thought it was great. It stays soft, but has really good structure to it too.

:woot Got to see a picture of my new baby tonight!! He is SO cute! Unfortunately, just this brief view tells me his name probably will NOT be Beauregard like I want :( You know in the funny movies, where they grease the binoculars, so when the person puts them up to their eyes, they end up with two black rings around them? Well, that's him. Two perfect black rings around his eyes! :p Oh well, he's adorable, the seller expects him to only reach 34", he's exactly the mix we want (1/4 Jersey, 3/4 Lowline), and we can get him at a great price. :ya Two cutie pies running around in the pasture! Oh, yes, DH finished the barn this past weekend, with his usual excellence, and has all the corner/gate posts in the ground!

Planted all my seedlings yesterday evening and watered them in. Hope they all make me proud! :D

Went to the specialist today. It sucked. I cried, then yelled at her :/ Don't start talking biopsy this, run that test - I'm done! That sucking sound you hear are all you money grubbing Dr's draining every dime from us and then some! STOP! Fix the stinking problem I went in for - 4 months ago! - then we'll talk about all this other crap! Ugh, can you tell I'm frustrated?!

Icing on the cake was that the FIL took my youngest to the museum while I was at the Dr, and drove down a one-way street, the wrong way- in the 2nd largest city in MI - as people were screaming at him to turn around :ep This news did NOT come from FIL, but DS (who seemed more upset that "Grampa NEVER uses his turn signal Mom!" ) :barnie
