So yesterday I was cruising craigslist and found a Sanaan doe for $250...the farm that raised her and other goats have several other does for sale, too, but I think this is the only one that's in milk.

Well, she's not milking right now, as she has a couple week old doeling by her side...that they said is also for sale and ready to go in 3 weeks - unless one would buy both, then they'd make a packaged deal....

hmm.......

*NEWS FLASH*

E said If we put up woven wire were he has barbed wire on the pasture, then I can put one goat out in pasture with the cows....

So, can anyone tell me anything about Sanaans???
I think this farm also has some Alpine and something else and a few crosses - but all are dairy goats, and they said they come from good milking lines.

I'm thinking about calling to make arrangements to visit this goat farm.....

thats what Vita is! she's a big ol' saanan! we love her - they call the sanaans the holstiens of the goat world - or big marshmallows.. they are big, white, and easy going. lots of milk but not as much butterfat as some.

:)

here's some pix:
http://adventuresinthegoodland.blogspot.com/2010/04/farm-notes-and-return-of-king-i-mean.html

the only drawback that we see is that Debbie (lamancha) is much more efficient with her feed, that is, she needs less and gives the same or more milk.

also - $250 seems a bit high for around here... just fyi..

Free - any new goats YET!?!

Wow, you don't have problems out of your neighbors with free ranging chickens? Or just in general about your animals. They are allowed where we live and I still have to keep them hidden in back and in pens or I have neighbors banging on my doors at all hours because a chicken was in their yard, or they saw a goat and thought it was loose and didn't want it getting in their garden.(had both things happen-yes the chicken was in someone's yard, and no the goat was not loose-happily in his pen).

Edited for sp.
