With all commentaries, books and teachings by others, we need to learn to "eat the meat, and spit out the bones."

When there are just too many "bones" find a different place to get your meat.

nicely said m_tn and Rebbetzin, I agree that is why I am a skeptic when a teacher state that they are right. I appreciate a teacher that encourage to read for them self and don't mind being questioned. When I attended one of her studies that is one of the things I appreciated about her and no I didn't agree with everything she said but then again I have seldom agree completely on any one person that teaches the bible so I use the same approach as Rebbetzin. I know in my life I have been wrong more times than care to admit but it is call learning and I know that is very important in life and I am sure teachers are always learning as well.

Wow!! I never knew there was such a thing either. That is really interesting. It seems to me that is a truer form of our Christianity that has been left behind.

As with any "Movement" in the Body of Messiah, be discerning, not everythng out there labeled "Messianic" is Biblical. There are some really whacked out doctrines within the Messianic Movement.

Just be aware you have all the heresy of the over 2000 years of Christianity, with the added 4000 plus years of Judaic heresy in the mix.

Heresy is for the most part is "a truth out of balance."

I only have one book by Beth Moore and I've only skimmed parts of it, so I can't begin to comment on her teachings. I know I've heard mostly good things and most people seem to like her -- which in itself doesn't prove one way or another.

I love the way Rebbetzin put it -- spit out the bones and avoid really bony meals. :)

What I wanted to add is that just because someone is criticized, even seriously, doesn't make them a bad teacher. You can find discernment sites that will knock down EVERYONE as a total heretic -- then another site to knock the first one down as well. Even the soundest, most careful teachers I know have Internet articles devoted to pointing out their error.

As a baby Christian, I found one such site. It criticized the writer of every book I owned. I couldn't find any good teacher, according to this site. So I emailed the guy a very sincere letter and asked his advice on who might be a good teacher to learn from.

I got back a very mean letter saying something to the effect that obviously my opinion of a good Christian book wasn't the same as his. I was shocked, and felt attacked. Sheep tearing at one another? (Yeah, I know it happens, but back then I didn't).

I have since grown up a bit, and learned that not everyone who is attacked deserves it, and some of those were wonderful, godly, Biblical teachers. As to the man who attacked a baby Christian for a sincere seeking question -- well, that doesnt reflect well on his fruit, does it?

Anyway -- just want to caution that all the cautions are not necessarily accurate. :)

Also remember to keep checking the "primary source document"! Read that Bible and actually look up the verses they use in the study. Read not only the verse itself, but also read for the context in which it is used.

Remember Truth will hold up to ANY scrutiny. :)

Wow! Great discussion on here tonight! Love it!

Our women's group has done a lot of study with Beth Moore's DVDs and I got to go one time. I like her energy and didn't find anything wrong with her message....but then, I only attended the one night.

Judgement as a topic.

I read something the other night about how John 3:16 used to be the most quoted verse of the Bible but now, due to secular leanings, the most quoted verse has become Matthew 7:1, "Judge not that ye be not judged."

I agree with Quail on this one. One has to use one's judgement or discerning abilities as guided by the Bible to even get through life! Just like my situation at work....I had to stand up and state that the situation that was happening was wrong and should not be allowed to continue. The reason it was wrong? It is sinful(morally wrong) to display pride and beligerence towards those in authority over you and, in turn, hurt another helpless human being because of that same pride and rebelliousness.

Since then I have received some measure of persecution and it is continuing. The secular world does not like anyone to stand up for what is right in God's eyes and they can and will try to beat that down.

The church, on the other hand, should support what is true and right according to God's Word. My church does not and, as a consequence, never grows. It is a dying church....no young people even attend and the congregation is largely very old and dying off.
