I LOVE that book!!!! You know, many Christians took umbrage over that book because of that depiction of God? Yeah that's pretty much where I believe it came from. The tower of Babel incident seemingly escalated the whole fiasco. Wanna, I think the genetic abnormalities to which you refer entered the world and afflicted humans with the entrance of sin, didn't they? At least, that's what I've always been taught....man was created perfect, in His image, but was afflicted with disease and other byproducts of sin when the fruit of the tree had been consumed. He lost his immortality at that moment and started to age, deteriorate, etc.
