To me, the Book of Ecc., Ch. 1, seems to be Solomon's realization that Earthly wisdom and pursuits are so trivial and meaningless.

Maybe I'm just reading more into it but it seems to be a warning to those of us who feel that all our science, advanced technology, theories and philosophies are the best hope for mankind but are really just our own vanity and a result of our limited Earthly/human wisdom.

It seems to be a lament that our wisdom is confined to human understanding and, therefore, useless. Solomon was counted to be one of the most wise of men but in all his strivings to learn and obtain wisdom he happened onto the most simple truth....we are limited to our human pursuits and thoughts, which have all been thought and done in generations past and are limited to finite human abilities. Any thinking that believes this is not so is mere vanity.

I agree with what you are saying Bee. I think 1:18 sums it up well. Solomon was given great wisdom but he used his wisdom and didn't rely on God. No matter how smart or wise we are, we are still to look to the Lord for guidance and understanding and wisdom. Once we start leaning on our own wisdom, we are in trouble and will fall just like Solomon did.

Finally back from California!! Wow! I missed most of Galatians! Now I will have to get going to catch up here. One thing my husband warns about in this book is... don't try to get sound doctrine from it. Solomon is "musing" on how things seem to go in this world, from an "earthy" perspective.

Yes, we visited my uncle who was healed of stage four cancer. In Aug they gave him about three months. But... Baruch haShem(PTL) he is now cancer free, they wanted to remove his tongue, voicebox and lower jaw! He opted for three rounds of chemo and some radiation. We were all amazed just how quickly he was cancer free!

I have some photos on facebook of our trip. here is a link:
