My computer almost never works anymore. It let me make one post right after i turned it on today, but then the keyboard shut down. I'll come here to the library from time to time, but don't expect me to be around as much as i used to. I'm gonna miss you folks.
It looks like we might finally get some rain from this tropical storm that's heading towards New Orleans. We desperatly need it up here. We have had 48 days over 100*F! It's the all time hottest summer ever recorded here. I lost one of my walnut trees, and a hazel nut bush:hit
I need to get busy collecting firewood. I have some other winterizing projects in mind. I need to insulate my hot water tank, plumb some hot water to the washtub, (so i dont freeze my hands washing clothes this winter) and i want to insulate my solar batteries. They don't charge well, and run down quicker when they are near freezing temps. I'm also thinking about making a small kerosene heater for them. I use sealed AGM batteries, so there is no danger of a hydrogen gas explosion. I'm also planning to over-winter my peppers and tomatoes again. I've seeds to collect, leaves and straw to shred into mulch, and lots of other fall projects to keep me busy.
I just finished a pretty big paint job, so i have some money for a change. But this is the time of year that my line of work slows down, so i'll pobably use most of this money to stock up on nessesary items and dry and canned goods. I could use it to buy another solar panel, but that could leave me broke for a while. I already have enough solar power for lights and TV through the winter. So it's hard to justify the expense. I think i should build a still so i can cook up my own booze. That would probably save me a ton of money!
Well, my time is up. I'll check back in when my computer starts working again, if it does. I'll be around from time to time. See y'all later!

and as far as the still goes.. Pretty easy... for essences or "fuel" alcohol. My experiments have gotten me to 190 proof ;)

Computer is working today, so i thought i'd pop in to say hi all. Tropical storm Lee gave me some much needed rain, and left me with nice fall-like temps. The beautiful weather has inspired me to do some house cleaning. I'm gathering firewood, and in a little while i will be going shopping for canned goods. I want my pantry and firewood better stocked this winter. I had some issues towards the end of January, and i don't want to freeze off my derriere this year. My pantry got lower than i would have liked as well. That's all i got to report. My boring life continues.

Enjoy this beautiful weather.
Sorry about your walnut and hazel. I hope they already made baby trees before the storm got them.
I don't know what the locl rules about stills are where you're at, but be careful if you decide to do it. It might be easier to make wine instead. The rules about wine making are less strict.

At least it is a little less boring when you have internet, right?

Glad Lee didn't hammer you, that was one slow moving storm. Our temps are down just a tiny bit, but the humidity is back in force. From what I understand, it's perfectly legal to make your own booze as long as you're "licensed"... for some reason I don't see you running down to the court house and procuring yourself a license. :D
