You "just" got 24 dozen so you're safe. If you want to make extra sure, send the gallon size ones here. ;)
Besides, you can't get addicted to caning jars, anyway. :tongue Can you . . . ? :/ Well- I can quit any time I want. You'll see . . . Right after I get these jars here.
Back off, dl, I was there first. :smack

You have to wonder about that wedding, don't you? I do. So, we'll use all these jars to show how rustic we are - we'll buy them new, but then .... then .... what then? Well, I don't know - when, and for what, would we ever use them? Better just get rid of them (at a loss), because we certainly don't have room to store them. Was her wedding dress made from flour sacking? All these questions
ouch. we used canning jars for decorating our wedding...and no i didnt have a flour sack dress. and i wasnt canning then so i didnt know what to do with them either.

Actually I think it was a money saving strategy. The young man told me they had gotten marred at a Casino out in the hills where I live and instead of paying for glass rentals they brought their own. I saw many adds on CL where he was looking to buy.

It was kinda funny, they lived in this tiny little beach cottage with a yard about the size of my bedroom. She had 4 or 5 garden boxes is just pristine well manicured condition. I am sure the inside of the house was even smaller. He mentioned to me a local food co op in the area. I told him I try not to use plastic and the 1/2 gallons were great for pantry storage. Just small talk.

About that time I saw a light go off in the young ladies eyes. I said good by and left as fast as I could.

I think someday she might regret loosing all those jars.

They did say they were happy to know they would be used.

I guess all is well that ends well.

Actually OFG she had used the 1/2 gallons as center pieces and I know some were used for candles. I think it was probably a good representation of a young couple, green, trendy and all that other Mother Earth mumbo jumbo.

the new trend.

Hey maybe I should rent mine out for other weddings. I could label it the "NEW, latest and greatest green wedding trend"

What do ya think?

duuuuuuuuuuuuude.. you'd totally make a million! whooot! good thinking
:)

actually having a 'green' wedding planning biz would be great.. hum.... we laughed a while ago about having weddings here but wow what a nightmare that would be if OD decided to chase the groom off. ha!

and what a great idea to use the big ones like that - i was just thinking it would be fun to put sea shells in them. someone i know uses them for storing seeds over the winter. i just love my half gallons.

:)

My Auntie who now lives in Mo did weddings at her farm in San Louis Obispo. They actually lived on half of 40 acres that my dh grandma owned. Big feud over that land now, but that's another story.

Anyways, she had a huge patio and pergola next to her house. There was a small yard with well kept grass and an arch. It had beautiful greenery and trees in the background. She would even do the food sometimes.

Not sure is she made a fortune but she did have customers.

:idunno

I do have a friend who owned a flower shop that specializes in weddings. Unfortunately because of the economy they only do it as a side business now. I should call her.

Wow...when we got married we decorated with potted mums and then planted them when we got back from our honeymoon!

Where do you even get half gallon jars from? I'm jealous!

man why can't I find deals like that around here! I went to the thrift store a few days ago and they were selling pint sized canning jars for a dollar each! :smack I mean come on! you can get them new for about $.70 for a case at walmart! with the lids and rings (which the ones at the thrift store didn't have!)

Score! What an awesome find! The larger jars are also good for milk, if you have a milking animal.

I also saw a case of pints at a dollar store. I was all excited, but then the cashier started counting them all (cause she couldn't see there were 12 in the wrapped case?) and charging me a dollar each. No thanks.
