It could have been shrink wrapped...I had two ducks that hatched naturally and they made it half way out but couldn't get all the way cause they were stuck to the inside of the shell. It happens....now that you know they are hatching just keep an eye on them to see if there are any that might need help....:hugs

Thanks for responding Lori. If the upper half of the bird was out. Head and little wings were out. Why would it die? Wouldn't it just sit there stuck?

Morel the egg that exploded was off to the side of the hen. I checked the eggs then and nothing had pipped. This morning I found the chick.

Just a bummer.

I have been out there twice since this morning. Nothing else.

:hugs Thanks you guys.

Sorry, FF sometimes I forget you guys are on the other side of the country and all have important lives.

I think I need to get out of my house more. Maybe I should start walking. The cost of gas is so crazy here I sure am not going to be driving anywhere. I think I'm going stir crazy.

I went down and checked that chicken 5 times yesterday. No more hatched.. I think the frustrating part is this is the second nest I have let them set this spring and no luck. I think I might buy chicks to put under her.

I had a chance to watch the meats and turkeys yesterday for a bit. I think the meats are starting to bully the turks. I will need to move them. Speaking of turks. I don't think my tom can get off the roost. I think hes been up there for 2 days. I have not seen him in the field once. Is that possible? I keep thinking maybe hes to big and can't get down?

Not much else going on for me. I have a cousin who I don't really know but she is on my FB. She posted pics from Table Rock Lake near Branson. It is so flooded. My dh cousin in Seymour has a lot of rain but no flooding. I sure looked like AK was getting a wallop yesterday. I hope everyone is ok.

Well not much else ging on here.

baby i say this all the time - but for me its "i need to get off farm more"

ha!

i'm feeling ya - believe me. we are starting to have $4 gas here - which is incredibly high for here... its so frustrating. just another burden - i mean, where am i gonna be able to go??? not that i have any plans, but still.

so i guess we are all just gonna stay home and eat easter candy?

anyway

sorry about the chick. sometimes these things just happen and there is no real reason - i know its sad to see that little body. you know that there are blood vessels in the membrane around him, right? maybe he pulled too hard and bled too much? and sometimes the membrane attaches to his "belly button" and that can get pulled out. or maybe the momma stepped on him (we've had this a couple times). i dont know - just throwing some things out that have happened to us.

if your broody is still sitting, tho just let her be for a couple more days. we've had late hatches before. sometimes she will sit on a nest but will still keep laying. so the "real" hatch date is later than you think. remember she can hear the babies before you can - so if she is still sitting than just let her be.

i had a friend who let his duck sit or an extra WEEK and she hatched a beautiful clutch. so crazy things happen.

hang in there baby!

Gina, sorry to hear about the chick :(

I hope you get a hatch, wouldn't that be great? I bet your kids are excited :)

Gas......ugh. I drove past a station yesterday and it was 4.29 for regular. Not fun.

We have some great weather coming today, put on some shorts and a tank and get out in the sun! That will help get rid if your stir crazy.....lounge in the sun for a bit :thumbsup

Yeah I hear you there. My daughter went to bed last night complaining that she felt funny. I told her to stop with the sugar. Sure enough 2 hours later she woke from a sugar induced nightmare. Why is it the morning I have to get up the earliest I get the least amount of sleep??

I paid 4.19 for gas the other day. :somad :rant :he :barnie :tongue

I refuse. I will stay home FOREVERRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

Maybe I need one of those Amish horse and buggies. Oh how about if I hook my dog to a cart??

I plan to just keep checking the eggs today. Since I will be home. :hu

Thanks for stopping by.
