From what I have read it is cedar shavings that one shouldn't use with chickens; pine should be OK (hope so anyway, as that is what I use ;)). I don't know about the fluffiness being a problem. If you think it is or might be could you remove some of the shavings?
I second that motion.

So I am hoping this works.

I typed a big ol update this morning and instead of spell check I hit refresh. :barnie

Whatever.

Then I went down the hill to check my broody. I found this.

Cute! I can't get my broody to get off the nest - I tossed her bad eggs but a couple of the other hens laid there so she has been setting on those eggs. She was dustbathing today and her little single chick was right there in the mix with her - cuteness!

When I set up this clutch of eggs the turkey hen kept sitting on the chicken who was on the eggs.

The poor Buff Orp was trying so hard but the turkey hen just kept booting her out. So I collected the eggs and the BO and moved them. The poor turkey hen is still trying in the other coop.

There is one turkey egg in the clutch. Not sure how it got there. Opps. I am going to take it back to the turkey this evening. Maybe she can hatch it. Who knows.

My 3rd is pipping and has a small hole. I will go back down in a couple hours to check on it.

The momma is great. She has been letting me lift her and check out the babies with no problem.

I am happy with these 3 but would life a few more to hatch.

Here's a question for you. Rooster is mostly barred rock with a bit of Ameraucanna(however it's spelt). He has some green and a couple orange feathers, yellow legs. He was a natural hatch at sil place a couple years back.

One of my little black & white chicks has green legs. But it came from a brown egg. So it was not an Ameraucana hen that laid it. So would you say it got it's grandmas legs?

When your typing Rooster and it comes out Roaster would you call that a Freudian slip?? :gig

sorry I'm on a roll.
