I'd be glad to send you some of our heat. It was in the 80s today! I don't like hot weather.

Thank you!! :hugs

Wow, it looks like Monday is here again.

I had a nice weekend. I took DD 8yo to a birthday party on Sat. coordinated with a friend to bring her home in the afternoon. In the morning dh helped make a gorgeous planter box for his mom. He and his dad worked together to get it done. They used a Trex material. It was really nice but cost a lot to make. It was like 2 x 4 ft and the cost of materials was equivalent to what I spent for 3, 4 x 12 ft redwood boxes. Nice but not my style or budget.

When my dd got home from the party all kids loaded up with Auntie and headed for the ranch. I was a bit sad that they were leaving on Mothers Day but they have so much fun at the ranch and enjoy the horses. So I had them go. I figure I need to accept the invite when auntie has time for them. 8yo went on her first trail ride. 2 hours on Bo led with a rope. I am so proud of her. My son even got on a horse and rode in the arena. He is 10 and I think this is the first time he ever rode. I was teasing and told him I know he is a cowboy at heart. :D

Since the kids were gone and dh had spent most of the day working with his Dad we did my stuff later in the day. Dh finally caved and agreed to build a new turkey pen out of pallets. I wanted to use materials we had available and spend zero money. We did and if you ask me I think it turned out fab!! I will post pics later. I moved the 5 little ones out to the enclosed 1/2 acre. The pen is 6 x6 and in a couple weeks I will integrate them into the general population. I think they are in shock to be separate from the creepy meats.

Speaking of the creepy meats. Next Sat they will be 6 weeks. I think I am going to push closer to 8. They are big but not that big. I don't think I was feeding them as much as I should have. But they look healthy and are moving about nicely. So I am making a processing plan and getting my nerve mustered. I hope. :hide

Garden is good. Eating lettuce by he ton. I roasted some beets to ferment the other day. Yellow and Bulls Blood. I have a question on those but will save it for the fermenting thread. Carrots are looking good and green beans are coming on strong.

I am doing some baking today. GF bread and muffins for lunches. Trying a couple new recipes. I will let you know how they turn out. I am also going to try and make some GF bake mix like Bisquick. I have many family Bisquick recipes. But the GF Bisquick is spendy. So I am going to make the mix out of my Emergency Essentials, Make a Mix cook book, with rice flour. Should work well.

Anyways. I ll be back.

I went to google images to see what Trex looked like, but it kept coming up with pictures of dinosaurs (T-rex). I finally found the site. Yeah, I can see how that would be pretty pricey!

The thing probably weighed 500 lbs too. But she liked it and I am glad dh could help. She is using it for cooking herbs. Right outside her kitchen she has a grass yard, about 3o x 60. Nice and flat facing south west. I told her yesterday how I could sure plant a ton of veggies there. That didn't go over to well.

Their home is a showplace.

You need to get those meaties on a scale. I will bet you they are at weight now. They really don't look all of that big when they are ready to go at about 4.5 to 5 pounds, because they are WIDE and dense.

Weigh an average one and let me know how much it weighs.

Ok so I went out and weighed my meat birds. Well I weighed one. The card board box weighed 3/4 of a pound and the bird in the box weighed 5. So I am guessing about 4 lbs. So how much weight do you loose after processing. A pound???

I took some pics while I was out there.
