Ha, me thinks I am going to process the first few this weekend only still photos no video. :hide That way I can pick and choose which embarrassing moments I will share. Then maybe next weekend I will video some.

Today I bought a vinyl apron, (Wifezilla splatter story), thermometer with clip on side, and some 2 gallon freezer zip bags. Yesterday we borrowed my FIL propane burner grill thingy, and I need to get our 5 gallon tank filled.

Other than that I think I'm ready. :sick

Ok so how many wackos are there on Craigs List these days???

I really need to stop e mailing people and trying to be friendly and helpful. It's get me nothing but trouble. Todays add.

"Needed used coop

I rescued a mother hen ad her poults from the side of the road (they were being stalked by some ferrel cats) and put them in a makeshift run I have in my yard. I need a real coup to keep them in until they are old enough to make it free ranging. Ben Franklin wanted these Heritage Birds to be the National Bird, now they are almost extinct, only 5000 left in the U.S. These birds are friends, not food, unfortunately, I don't have a ton of money to keep them safe, just a good deed doer. They're Bourbon Reds, a heritage breed that was abundant in the early 1900's, but now almost gone. If you have an old coop to sell or donate, want to do a good deed and help save a dying breed, please contact me. I need at least a size 5 foot wide by 5 or 6 deep by 5 or 6 high, Please contact me, I can pay as much as $150 for the coop to save this sort of endangered heritage Turkey. And these birds are smart, unlike the white ones raised for food. The mother comes when I call now, after only 3 days. Thanks Bill"

He had picture of a hen with 5 chicks. I emailed him and told him about my little up cycled hut and how it might be an inexpensive option for him. Then at the end I kindly(yes very neutrallly) asked what he intended t do with the birds?

This is what I got back.

"Keep them as pets, I guess. Im not going to eat them or sell them for food, thats for sure. We have 3 chickens as pets on our acre now.
Stacy"

:gig I'm sorry but I can't wait until those birds start gobbling. She may have second thoughts.

I simply replied with an "No problem I was not aware that you raise your own poultry. I was going to offer to help."

:barnie

I really need to stay of CL.

Why do people feel the need to "rescue" healthy animals on the side of the road? If he had left them alone they probably would have been fine. If they were injured then I would be more receptive to that but sheesh.....wonder how he caught them?

I can't believe he talked about Ben Franklin either....

Lots of funny stuff on CL, you never know what you're gonna get, huh?

I guess my concern would be, if he found them on the side of the road, then maybe a farmer out there is missing a mama turkey and her poults????

and I wasn't aware that they are now almost gone - I thought they were making a comeback! :hu

You know what's really funny?? So, I love craigslist and while I have met some wackos I've been on the lucky side and just get the general spam crap.

Until today. I emailed someone about a free upright freezer and she said that it was promised to someone but they haven't responded to her emails so if I wanted it I could come and take it. I wrote back and said we'd be there Sunday.

She wrote back and said she felt so silly - the other person wrote and said the email went to spam (OK....) so it was no longer available

BUT

I wasnt gonna mention this, but 3 weeks ago I received a check for $1600 from the state government. It would seem if you make less than $85k a year you could qualify for it too as part of this grant program. Dont know about you, but receptionists don't make very much and that income really helped us out this month.

I got grant #OP2403, it was the choice with "Financial Relief" as its title. The process is straightforward, you just have to go to this website: blah blah blah

The application takes around 4 or 5 minutes and it can all be done on the internet. One thing though: please don't tell too many people about this. I've heard they havent got unlimited money for this and I want to be sure some of my friends will be able to sign up for the money too. Thanks for understanding, and I apologize again for the messup. Marlene

I replied and said it was OK about the messup but in the future I'd appreciate if she didn't email me with sales pitches or the like. And I closed the email with "Good luck in the future".

Edited to take out the phoney website she gave me. It doesn't even come up as anything!

Yeah I know it's funny..

Quail we really don't have any farms around here. If they live in a rural area there is a chance a neighbor had an escape.

One more reason to know your neighbors.

The funny thing is I found a breed description that talks about how they were created in the 30's and 40's for meat. Because of their size and ease of reproduction.

But I'm done with CL. Or at least trying to be helpful.

We've been lucky with CL, no wackos so far even with all of our buying and selling.

:fl Hope the processing goes good for you this weekend. Can't wait to hear about it because I'm sure you'll have stories!
