I smoked a duck and it came out great. The light meat vs. dark meat isn't a problem with me. I don't worry about the finer things like carving, we just dig in.

Now that you know what to expect, it isn't a chicken, the next one might go better.

The grilled duck has a slightly smoky flavor to it. That is one reason why it is so good that way.

Yes goose is very similar just LOTS bigger.

I grew up eating both duck and goose, since my grandpa was an avid waterfowl hunter. Grandma Nettie could SURE roast a goose! She stuffed them with apple and onion stuffing. YUMMY!

Just stopped in to post a couple pics and ramble. It's Friday and I have finished almost all my projects for the week. Now I just need to run to the grocery and tackle a mountain of laundry.

The kids were home with no school on Monday. We were in the desert over the long weekend so it was a very mellow day. Recovering and rest. I'll dig up some pics.

Tues all three had a dentist appointment. Only one cavity out of three kids, not to bad. My 6yo had a tiny spot between two baby teeth they have been watching. Time to fix it.

Wed I took my dog to the vet for a neuter. I dropped him off at 8:15 am. At 12:30pm they called and said he was growling and showing his teeth so they could not proceed. They wanted me to come in and put a muzzle on him. I told them when I dropped him off to muzzle him and they did, but he got out of it. Lame.... So the gave him a shot in the but to calm him and then proceeded. Of course they charged me extra for the shot. I did tell them that his behavior should be expected, he was in a foreign place and they had him locked up for 3 1/2 hours. What did they expect? Anyways, it's done and he is on the mend. Wearing a cone and bumping into walls.

Thurs the dryer repair man and his helper finally showed up. Dryer is all fixed and running well. I love those Sears warranties. New motor, new electronic board, new fan thing they broke while putting in the motor. 8 year old dryer all fixed up.

While I was waiting and they were working I cleaned base boards and such. I don't know why they put toe kicks under cabinets. They just collect gunk and are really hard to get to. I spent an hour on my hands and knees with a scrub brush and a bottle of simple green. they look amazing.

Sat. my dh and dd6yo are going to the Daddy daughter dance for school. I chose to make the dress because I thought it would be easier. Silly me. After spending an hour in the fabric store with daughter we ended up with teal Satin and a very expensive lace. That was ok no biggy. Well satin is evil. I never want to sew on it again. But I finished. My dd is not thrilled with the fit. The gathers fit right across her belly. Not the best place for a bunch of satin when your already a bit round. But shes going to wear it anyways. I dropped the dress yesterday at the dry cleaners. They are going to clean and press it for me. There is a tiny water stain where my iron spit on the skirt. If it doesn't come out no biggy. It's under the lace. I just need to add a hook and eye at the top of the zipper then she will be good to go.

Anyways, I had big plans for cleaning out my coop and getting my garden beds prepped. I hope the rain does not actually hit us. Usually it doesn't come this far south. We'll see.

Have a great weekend.

Monday, Monday, Monday!!!!

Well it was a kinda cold and drizzly weekend but I managed to get stuff done. Saturday I concentrated on house chores laundry etc. Oh that reminds me I need to make more laundry soap. Son went to friends for a sleepover. I was all good with it until I picked him up yesterday and the Dad made a comment about how "Those crazy boys went swimming in the unheated pool" Uhhh, obviously he let them. Then as we were driving off my son showed me his scraped up knees. He proceeds to tell me he wanted an orange but fell out of the tree. Uhhh, maybe next time we will have his friend come to our house.

Sunday I worked on some little fencing to keep my free ranging hens out of the neighbors yard. It didn't work. They went around it and could not figure out how to get back. Got to work on that a bit. Went to the feed store for a few things. Dog food, scratch, oh and I got these.......

12 Buff Orpingtons. I couldn't resist. I needed to add some birds for this summers egg production. I have a elderly neighbor who came by and bought 4 dozen eggs. She says she has 3 friends who want to start getting eggs from me. I have nowhere near enough eggs for that right now. So summer should be good for sales.

I will need to work on their coop a bit. Roof blew off in that freak tornado storm last month. It was just Hardie Plank across the top of the run for shade. Maybe I will just put up netting for now. I don't want to feed the hawks.

Well, I guess spring is definitely in the air. I just can't wait to get some veggies in.

Have a great day.

Yes, it's a 38 foot Keystone Raptor. We bought it specifically to fit my Rhino. The back 14 ft is a garage, separate from the living area. Usually we set up a 6 foot table and use it for eating, playing cards etc.. sometimes the desert is not a friendly place so it's nice to have the extra space.

When we went to northern Ca. 2 years ago we put a 14 foot trailer with a hard bottom inflatable in the back. My dh used the Freightliner to launch it. Kinda overkill but, it worked. Last year for Yellowstone we had the kids bikes and all my extra stuff back there.
