Hey, at least you have it to live in!!

The place we are renting? Yeah, it's in foreclosure AND DH is not exactly employed :barnie

Good times, good times.

So....if you decide to get out of Dodge, where do you think you would go? Is employment a major concern or is your hubby adaptable.

Even though the market here sucks I woudl think you could still walk away with a big enough chunk to put a good bit down on a place outside of CA.

Yes your right. We have talked about the situation a bit. Turns out we may have some help. This may be confusing but here goes... My sil owes dh old company money. Company owes us money but has not paid us. So fil told new owner sil was going to give her money to us. It will be enough to keep us going. BUT I told dh I did not intend to sit here and squander it. I will give the solar a couple of more months. But if we are leaving the state it must be before the end of summer.

He agreed.

My husband has an Aunt that live is Mo. I know there are lots of properties in the area we could purchase with cash from our home sale. And still put money in the bank. But like you said what will my husband do when we get there? Be a farmer? Huh, thats funny. And what do we do about medical? My dh would have to get some kind of job for that. What jobs are there? I guess I need to see if Springfield is suffering as much as the rest of the country.

After reading some of FarmFresh post I am not to sure I want to live there. There is a huge Meth problem. Well I guess that's anywhere.

I like Co. But it's kinda expensive.

I have read some articles about how renting is such a better way to go than buying a home. No maintenance, no tax bill etc... But I would hate to leave my home and have to live in the same city. I think dh health has a lot to do with that. With him being a cancer survivor I always have that in the back of my mind. What would I do if..... If we were on a farm I would know what to do. I could raise food etc to take care of the family. And if it was paid for, even better.

I just don't know. It's kinda scary!!

Oh a better note I was at our local WM yesterday. They are closing the fabric section. Woo hoo!!! I had a field day. This was before I know of the pay cut of course. I bought some fleece to make those knot blankets for Christmas gifts. Yes I know Christmas is a long way away but the fabric was a steal and I figured I would have time to do them. Now I am not sure.

You know the last time I had to move I left mid summer with a veggie garden overflowing with food. I would really hate for that to happen again. Oh and my fruit trees. Ugggg...

I guess only time will tell.

Gina: when I was in hi tech last year, the small company cut all of our pay by 30%. They also applied to the State of CA for unemployment for all of us. This means that the state provided a small amount to help make up the loss in pay. I forget what its formally called, but all companies are applying on behalf of their employees when they have to cut their pay. No cost to the employer, and the employee fills out and turns in the paperwork every other week, like full unemployment. The check will also include another extra 25 bucks from Obama's stimulus plan.

Have hubby immediately check into this with his HR dept. Even tho its partial replacement, every penny helps.

btw: the company I worked for only had 14 employees. Turns out that I and two programmers were fully laid off in July, but at least everyone else that remained is STILL getting their partial unemployment.

Sadly the drug problem IS everywhere. I think the city where I live is worse than some of the more rural areas, yet as you say, if you get too rural there are no jobs to be had.

thanks, I did not know that was available. I will let him know. There is so much more to this story. Not sure if you know or not. I deleted alot from my journal.

My dh used to work as VP for his dads company. He helped him build this company from nothing over the past 18 years to a multi million dollar business. Sad to say that with the company owners spending habbits, humm humm, and the economy down turn my fil decided to sell. He set up his term letter to include a 20% silent partnership and a huge monthly payment for himself. Left my dh out completely. When we got back from Yellowstone last July we found out dh really had no future, job, or inheritance left. Nice huh??

I am not saying they have never helped us. They paid us a grotesque ammount of money when we agreed to move south. With the promis of building new homes and opening new offices. Well I got my house but for a long time we have not really been able to afford what we really shoud be spending to maintain it. It needs pait, carpet etc.. All cosmetic but it's the point of the matter.

So he didn't quit. Took the high road and moved in to an hourly position. This way we still had an income and medical. The Jac@ A$$ in charge hates him. My dh tried to fire him twice and he(jerk guy) talked fil into trying something different. Well here we are. So because the head guy will not give my dh the satisfaction and fire him, which we would prefer so they have to pay some of our medical. They are now trying to squeeze him out by lowering his pay.

It's sickening. I have to go to the inlaws 10,000 sq foot marble floored mansion on a regular basis. I take Ativan everytime I go so I act nice and don't tell them how I really feel.

I think at this point my best bet is to leave Ca. Start fresh somewhere else and raise my kids how I know we should have been doing it all along.

Whewww, thanks for listening. sorry to dump that on you. It gets worse but I guess I can save that for another day.

Well Gina, looks like we are both in the same boat. Things have fallen apart here and I am not sure there is any recovery possible. I honestly do not know what we are going to do.

But, I do know that we will both get thru it. You always have us here to talk to. :hugs

Good Morning Dace, Thanks. My dh told me this morning he did not think he could live in Mo. Well great I said, where would you like to live? I don't think we can stay here.

The whole scenario is making me nauseous. I think the worse part is my kids. I am trying to carry on and act like all is good. Well, they know Grandpa sold the company and dads job has changed. We have talked about how Mom would like to buy a farm and have animals. Sure I'll take the blame.

I don't know. The whole thing is putting me in a funk. I seem to be walking in circles and getting nothing done. I guess I could start clearing ore clutter and cleaning out closets.

We are off to see a Dr. today about the kids attention issues. I really think it's irrelevant at this point. But I will carry on. The elementary school has finally decided to test my son for a learning issues. They were supposed to do this in Sept. but they talked me out of it. Saying they did not have enough data. Well I guess now that hes fallen further behind they believe me.

Yesterday was a banner day for fresh eggs. I did not go to the coop on Sun so yesterday mid day I pulled 30 eggs out. Then again after dinner I got 5 more. Wheew, those girls must be tired. I think I will put my "Eggs for sale sign up on Sat."

Talk to you later.

Oh Gina...no, I didn't know those details. Why oh why do hard feelings, changes in attitudes, sudden compulsions to exclude loved ones, etc etc etc come about when money and transitions collide?

It may be that DH will need to hang in there. Demand that HR apply for the unemployment comp for his reduced pay. Hang in with his nails so that they do fire/lay off. This way, he'll get full unemployment, and he'll get 65% of your COBRA payments paid for. I do. My ex employer has to pay (at the end of the year, tax time) 65% of my $2K medical coverage. So I pay 35% ($700 a month). Now, Obama said that this program would expire on Dec 09, but at the last min they extended it to this coming fall.

Don't let the company (less about the individual, and more about "the company", so its less personalized) force him out. The other alternative, after hanging in with is fingernails, is to go to the HR dept and negotiate a mutual separation, thereby allowing hubby to get UE and paid COBRA. I've done that in 2005, with a hateful boss, whom I went over his head directly to the HR dept in Boston. It worked for me at that time, as I was Director level. Something to consider, but only after some time passes, so that they know your DH is NOT leaving voluntarily.

Hugs to you and kiddies, Gina.

If you need a stop over place on your way out of town, you can always stay a few days here in Murphys. Got 7.5 acres to park your rigs, 4 dogs to play with, 2 cats, 6 chickens and a bunny to pet.

Morning Gina :frow

After reading about Henrietta23's diagnosis I was talking to DH about his constant reflux....and wondering about the connection to gluten. He *thinks* he is ready to do an elimination, but the reality is that it will be harder than he suspects!

Just wondering how your kiddos are doing and if you got them tested or did the elim. diet?
