Morning Gina :D

I have a question....I regularly check CL for homes for sale by owner or to rent. What I want is to find a home with some land. Not a lot but enough to have some animals...a couple/few acres would be nice.

We want to find an owner willing to carry a loan for a few years....I am not sure where else to be looking. I know that you have had your eye on RE for a while, but probably looking out of state, where I want in SD county. Well, I don't but DH does!

Any advice on where else I should be looking?

Hey Dace, you know I really don't know. I think the owner will carry thing is going to be hard here in So Cal. I see some offers like that when I look at out of state listings. I just don't know if Californians really have that option.

I really have not looked in our area for that type of place. I sure will start keeping my eyes open for you though.

We are kinda in limbo. My dh has been working for 3 weeks now. Because of when he started we have not received a check yet. Come on already!! He has been driving to Chino and job walks all over the place. Last week he went to Big Bear and the Mojave desert. I can't wait until he gets the fuel card they promised. I can't decide weather or not I want to pay for COBRA. I am playing the loop hole right now dragging my feet. I hate to spend that money if we really don't need to.

We have actually found a piece of land near his aunt. I wish I could figure out a way to buy in and just hold it until we are ready to go. Its 40 acres with a huge barn, well, power. There is also a smaller metal building attache to the barn which was used a living-quarters. Small but do able. I am trying to get his cousin to research the cost of building an Amish home on the property. With my dh doing the plumbing and electrical.

Dh would prefer to move to a home that is ready to go. Finished with barns house etc. But with this luxury comes a greater cost.

I picked up a book in Bakersvile you might like to read. It is very old and the cost are outdated put the principals are great. Its called the "Have More Plan". Most of the basics on how to provide up to 75% of your family's food on two acres or less. It's very short and basically the story of a family that goes from city to country. It really reinforces the Self Reliant lifestyle.

Anyways, I will start looking at some real estate in the area for you. Have a great day.

Yeah, owner carry is not real easy to come by. We have a potential here in out community, but I really want more land.

Now that DS is scheduled to go to school in Pt Loma next year it kind of changes the areas that I woudl consider....I woudl consider lots of areas that DH probably would not though.

I know that things wil come together at some point, but if I am not keeping my eyes open, potential opportunities will pass me by.

I guess I just want what I want and I want it now :barnie

Hubby is going to school? I must have missed that one. Something new for him? I hope it works out well.

Lots of land is nice but just keep the Dervaes Family in mind. They do amazing things with their little piece of earth.

Oh, sorry Dace. I need to clean my glasses.

Monday April 26, 2010

Spent my morning in laundry land. I am catching up on all of the denim and heavy stuff. So there is a back up waiting for the dryer.

It's official my canning season has started. Loquats are in. Hanging on a tree near you and waiting to be gobbled up. I picked 3 grocery sacks yesterday and today I am experimenting. Last year I tried a jam recipe that did not set. So I used the syrup and made a jalapeno jelly. End result was fab and I hope I can do it again this year. I found a recipe used for canning them whole. I want to try that. I also ran into a friend at the elementary school. She has a huge tree in her yard and said I could come pick it as much as I like.

Whoo hoo.

I got a call from the elementary school around 9am son had a headache. I ran down the hill and gave him two Tylenol and sent him back to class. Two hours later hes back in the office it still hurts. I rand down the hill and picked him up. Two hours after that I get another call. Daughter is in the office with a tummy ache. Ok Ok I get it they got something. I ran down and got dd. Now everyone is in bed with chicken broth. Who knows what it is, different symptoms different kids. End result the same.

I spent some time in between running to the school in my garden. I was looking over last years pictures and geesh I am way behind. May of last year I had 1 ft tall green bean plants. I just put the seed in last week. Opps again. But other than that things are coming along. I would really like to plant more in succession this year. Try to keep the garden producing longer. Well at least up until late Aug. Then I usually hide in the house with the AC on.

I hope I can afford AC this summer.

I spent this morning reviewing my pantry storage. In the past 6 months I have depleted a lot of things. I think I am going to read the sale adds this weekend. See if anything I need is on sale. We are almost out of coffee, oats and some other minor things. I am going to try and build a master list. I think my Emergency essentials book has one. I will need to check.

Anyways, have a great day.

Thanks FD. When and how do you thin? Is it just to lighten the load on the branches? It's kinda like thinning carrots. I hate to do it but I know its necessary.

g
We start thinning peaches when they are about the size of cherries. I space them to about 3 inches apart, about the width of my hand. We also remove the doubles, since they don't grow right. I think of how the branch would look, if all the peaches were big. You wouldn't want any of them touching each other, coz then they'd be too crowded.

We thin for 2 reasons, one to make sure we get nice size peaches. If you don't thin them, you get small peaches, or peewee's as uncle Ray calls them ;) Normal size pit and not much flesh.

The other is to keep overloaded branches from braking. We also brace the branches, but if they are really loaded, they sometimes still break, or they are difficult to brace and will brake. We loose one or two branches anyway. We have about 10 trees though.

Oh, good to know. I think my peach is at it's best this year. I can't say the same for my apricot. It's a wait and see kinda thing.

I second the motion on the "Have More Plan". It is old but really good information is timeless! ;)
