Cool Turkeys Gina!

What a nice thanksgiving this will be for you with your own meat :woot

Sounds like summer is wearing on you a bit. I feel like mine is quickly coming to an end :( cheer has begun so we are on a schedule now and that sort of (really!) changes things. We missed all of July...sort of. It just feels weird since we were at families houses and not at our own.

My son is going to high tech high this year and school starts on aug 31! Dang.....then my two girls start sept 7th (I think). Then it is just back to the grind!

Hey Dace, I have been thinking of you. I was going to track down your journal and see how things are going. Have you moved yet? Once Cheer starts you will be going like a mad woman again. Then we will never see you. Take care of yourself. :hugs

Thanksgiving, It's hard to believe it's just a few months away. I hope all goes well with these birds. I thik one of the Tom's has a bad eye. he will probably be for Turkey Day and then I guess the rest will be done in early December. Like FF says, we don't want them so big they wont fit in the oven. :p

My kids go back to school on the 23rd. My youngest is off to kindergarten. :hit I can't believe it. But that leaves lots of time for projects for me. I think my first project will be to fence in the poultry yard/ orchard. My neighbor brought in some of that 0range construction fence. I told dh he intends to put it up between our properties to keep the hens out of his yard. DH said no way. So I think I an use this in my favor. :clap

Take care, Gina

Hey, Dace. I saw your Sourdough post. I was going to say hey but it seemed a bit off topic. I have never done SD before but I think there is a recipe made with potato as well.

Glad to hear you are getting settled. I hope all is well.

Aug. 12, 2010.

Today is my sons 10th birthday. Wow, do I feel old. We started our day with waffles and fresh eggs over easy. With a candle and a birthday song of course.

Things around here are just about the same. Garden is chugging along. I should take some pics today. My cucumber towers are about 6 feet tall. I picked another 5 gallon bucket yesterday. Today I am going to try to give some to the Firemen across the street. :D

Still working on painting. It's taking forever just to finish this one room. It was Hunting Coat Red, nice color but not good for an east facing room with a 8 foot porch. It was always so dark and when the paint got dinged it was white under neath. :barnie

Dh is working so late now. He is still up at 4 am and gone by 4:30 but then home around 6:00 or 7. We went to dinner at a local Mexican place last night for DS b day. Tonight he has a meeting with the big wigs after work. I hope he stands up to them. They know his abilities and are taking full advantage of him. He went from running 3 jobs to supervising over 300. Then when others don't understand their job he helps them as well. I am very grateful he has a job but I think the stress is not good for his health. He has a check up with his Oncologist at the end of the month maybe I should go. :hu

I think my first project after school starts will be some sewing for my 7 yo girl. She is in need of some skirts and shorts and I just can't find any for her. She is picky about the waist. It's hard being thick in the middle and having a low waist.

Then I am going to do fencing. I found another feather pile yesterday in my neighbors orchard. I think I lost another buff orp. There was also a neighbors dog in my coop. A very old arthritic Husky. I know he was not the culprit. He was just walking around sniffing the ground. he can hardly walk. I shooed him off and that's when I found the feathers. There was a coyote in the yard two days ago. He probably had a nice lunch.

My turkeys seem to be doing well. They eat a lot and are growing quickly. I have one Tom, I think, who only has one eye open. Not sure if this will make problems for later. I kinda feel sorry for him. Which is not going to help when it's time for freezer camp.

I should be warm today. I think I will get some laundry on the line and work in the garden a bit.

have a great day!!

August 16th

I just got back from my lower coop. Where my Turkeys are living or were. :hit

An animal of some kind dug a small hole under the back edge of the run. Two of the 5 turkey are gone. :hit

I can't believe it. I have had birds in that coop on and off for 6 years. I have never lost anything. Well once but that was because I left he door open.

I think I am down to one hen and two toms.

I don't know what I am going to do. I re packed the earth and put a big log on the inside and two on the outside. DH is going to check it for me this evening.

I am so mad.
