Around here we have periodic lootings of the homes. I think my big dogs and PWT appearances have always protected us. I also used to work with at risk kids. Some were regular thieves and real murderers. One year almost every house on our block was robbed .... except mine! It pays to know the right people!

Sept 11. 2010

Today is my big brothers b day!! Happy birthday Steve!!!

Ok not sure if I should explain my whole day or just jump to the good stuff. My kids went to their Aunties ranch in Fallbrook last night. They had a sleepover with horse and pony rides. My 7 yo daughter is getting to be quite the horse lover. Shoot me now.

Anyways that left dh and I home alone. :love We had a mellow night with some tv and a jigsaw puzzle. Actually we watched Food inc. together. First time I have seen the whole show. Not exactly what I thought but a huge eye opener. He was amazed.

This morning we kinda sat around over coffee and wondered what we were doing for the day. I really needed to solve my squash and pumpkin storage problem for winter. I grew a gazillion of those Cushaw and they are huge. I have the garage space but really did not want mice chewing on them.

So we have a space under the stairs that go from the house down to the garage. Harry Potter eat your heart out. I figured if we cleaned it out threw in some shelves and put on a door it would be critter proof.

So we used plywood scraps dh had brought home from work. And 2 x 4's we all ready had. Started by painting a light coat of white over the virgin drywall. It really needs another coat but I can do that later. Then moved on to the shelves. Dh did the measuring and I did most of the cutting. Jeesh I love that sliding compound miter saw. :D About half way through I realized these were much to nice just for squash. So I decided it would be a canning pantry and my existing metal office cabinet would now house the squash. I hope they fit.

Anyways so here it is.
I have no idea why the pic is sideways.

That's my dogs bum in the photo. He was checking things out.

This about when I decided the shelves would be for canned goods.

And the shelves after I loaded them up. I know it's very small compared to others but I am sure I will find a way to expand.

There is actually room for two more smaller shelves above. I left the bottom without a lip so I could put the squash down there if necessary.

So that's what we did today!!
