and you are right on with the wedding. sheesh! what a waste of money. make it fun and make it about you.

we got married in the back yard under a crabapple tree. we had bbq and cupcakes and everyone loved it. we both wore shorts and some very very special little boys stood up with The Big Man and my nieces stood up with me. it was great and everyone loved it.

Does he have tools he is looking to rid himself of? Tell him I am looking for a Pexto Stake set with the original cart. I have two complete sets right now. But I would like to have another set to work on.

Show me some pics of his work on my journal, I enjoy looking/study others work. I am a huge fan of Stickley/Rohlfs/Morris and some other little known Craftsmen.

Congratulations

I love simple weddings. My DD got married the 2nd time last fall and it was just under 1000$ including a wedding dress. She had hers in a local park. The food was Indian take out. I did the decorations, a friend is a minister and did the ceremony, her stepbrother is a amature photographer, a musician friend played the guitar, someone who worked at a bakery broght the cake, etc
Keeping it small makes it more personal and intimate.

My Ex and I did the civil ceremony and then had 3 receptions. One in CA with our friends, one in NYC with his family and one in upstate NY with my family and friends. The receptions didn't cost us anything, since they were thrown by other people and they were all pot luck, so none of them were any more expensive then a party anyway.

We eloped and went to the JOP.

We agree to this day it was the best decision for us. NOONE except for those who needed to know in our chain of command (we were in the Army at the time) knew we were getting married.

Congratualtions!

I wish you both every happiness.

modern_pioneer, he *might* have some tools, but there's no way to know! He passed away last year, and I have in my possession a garage full of various doohickies that are of great mystery to me. Despite growing up a soot-covered shop child, the more specific tools I can't identify. Most of his smithing tools I've given to various smith friends.
I'm not sure I have any images of his work, although it furnishes my entire house. His stuff was big in the 80's and 90's, so he didn't have a website...
*rummages through the internet...*
let's see, here's an article that mentions him :-D
(he was John Beckwith)

Here is his buddy Bob

lol, on Bob's profile he lists the smiths he studied with, and it reads like a who's who of my childhood babysitters. I drove those poor men crazy, I'm sure.

This is frustrating, I have two huge portfolios of dad's work right here, and nothing on the computer...

Your work is beautiful! I love that lamp. My favorite artistic metalwork all has that look of combining the metallic and the organic elements. Your article about the lanterns cracks me up, my dad went through the SAME THING when he made copper lanters. I think he ended up asking close to $500 for them. It's hard to find buyers sometimes, nobody appreciates truly great craftsmanship any more.
/and that is my good-taste-is-dying rant for the day :p

I love what I do, bar none the job fits me to a Tee. Although I do a lot of straight up fab work, its times like these I get time to make new stuff.

I am to produce 10 pairs of wood/copper candle stick sets along with 10 sets of copper, a commissioned piece for a top 200 corporation, while getting my work load done as well as garden/clean up, oh and on top of that draw/finish my next chandelier. I sold my last one in a private auction and I was pleased with the out come. :thumbsup

I did a simple JOP wedding but rented the Art center and had a friend cater the wedding. Just a few of us at the wedding. Sorry, my JOP was just on a list and he was a drunk, smelled like urine, icky kind... Still did the deed anyway. He also stole a bottle of $12 wine... :tongue

Another eloper here :D

Going to be celebrating 24 years in December.

We paid $25 to get married by a judge. Afterward we went to 7-11 and got a burrito, a bag of funyons and a diet coke to share.
