Congrats! Hey, we all knew there was power in that recipe....heck there is power in a slice of bacon!

I think you sound very wise in keeping it simple.

I got married 20 years ago when I was just 21. We decided that buying a home was a priority, so we bought a house, busted our butts fixing it up and 6 mos later.....we had our wedding in the church and our reception in our new backyard. It was great!

And because we did it on a budget, we not only had a house but we also flew down to Puerta Vallarta for a week long honeymoon :thumbsup

We got married on Yule of 2008, in his families back yard. Held the reception in the house. His family usually gets together then, so it was easy to attend. One of my best friends wrote and performed the ceremony. We added a bit to personalize it.

I found a dress I loved at Ross for 15.00 dollars. Not a traditional brides dress but that would not have been me. He was very relieved that I told him to wear his kilt. No monkey suit. :clap  Neither of us are into them. A relative did the pictures as a gift. It was in the evening so some of them didn't come out well.

We bought some bunches of flowers at the store and made my bouquet and one for the table. We bought some party foods and other people brought more too. Turned out good, and we didn't go in debt at all and had about 30 people.

Awww...... That's great, you know me, just be you!!! I know that in Europe its common to to wear a Kilt if that's your thing... But what is funny, I ain't ask'in but they don't wear under wear if their wearing a Kilt... A traditional man skirt with no knickers!!! Thats what REAL men are made of!!!:bow
i think they call it goin' 'regimental' over there... and you know MP, thats not necessarily a great idea. i was at a wedding once where abunch of american guys were wearing kilts and NO ONE thought to tell them how to sit modestly. i got an eyefull while they were doing their pre-ceremony pix... for heavens sakes gentlemen!

that being said, i've been trying to come up with a reason for The Big Man to wear a kilt... he look be great in one.

Worse than that eye full.... While in Spain we attended a wedding (reason we took vacation early) with an Irish lad and his English wife (DW school friend). So there we were having a great time, Irish lad had lots of family there, who ended up getting smashed and got into a family brawl. Me, I started snapping pictures of the brawl, and they were trying to strip each other of their regimental Kilts.

I got some great shots!!! Wanna see some? :ep

Hope I am not being inappropriate, but sometimes people enjoy looking at pictures of what others did so they can get ideas.

I got married in a public park overlooking the ocean. A pod of dolphins came for a visit.

I made all the dresses for me, my DD and DGD, and my husband's side wore guyaberas, the traditional Mexican wedding shirts.

I have lost about 50 pounds since then.

I catered it myself, with a bit of help to actually grill chicken, beef and sausages. Had five salads, beans, two veggies, bread. We had a dessert buffet set up inside a tent, with 12 desserts, including his late mother's favorite. His family was very appreciative of that.

The centerpiece of the dessert buffet was an homage to his GI Joe collection and my Barbie collection, and a song he liked about hitting the road looking for the future. The miniaturized stickers on the luggage were from places we visited in the previous six years.

I made the invitations on my computer, using vellum paper from Office Depot and some scrapbook paper.

I made several favors, and the bags that they were carried in.

I got some buckets and arranged centerpieces of dried and silk flowers, wheat with candles in glass chimneys in the middle. I spray painted walnuts to match and included them. My dad was a walnut rancher.

The head table was more colorful.

It was a lot of work, but it was a wonderful party and I had the enormous satisfaction that I had done absolutely everything myself, mostly with stuff from Big Lots and the dollar store !

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!! :woot

I got married four days after I turned 18. I literally ran away and got married! He and I were married at a 18 wheeler mechanic shop, by the mechanic! He wore a suit under his coveralls and we got married behind the shop by some boulders in the edge of the woods. I had on my church dress, and he borrowed a suit. My mom and his family were all there. My dad refused to come. ( He and I made up a year later when my ds was born.) My dh and I have been together for coming on 11 years now!
