Oooo, with many of the people I've hung out with over the years, the "beans or no beans in chili" thing would put any recent political threads to SHAME in terms of heatedness of debate and rancor incurred =:0

LOL

I was raised on what my Pennsylvania Dutch mom called "chili" which was basically a thin veg soup with kidney beans and some hamburger, and not much recognizeable spicing... but since I was raised on it, I like it... but it's made most everything I've had since then that called itself chili seem quite desirable by comparison, so quite honestly I am totally NOT a chili snob. Beans, no beans, Cincinnatti, Texas, spicy, not-spicy, whatever.

Whatever ya got, pass me a bowl of it please :)

I am a vegetarian - so, beans. Habaneros instead of jalapenos- I like it spicy. And thick. Some grated cheese, crushed tortilla chips and just a dab of sour cream, please.

Dang, now I am hungry.

Aint that the truth!!

I was taught to "cook" all the spices in a pan with some oil before adding them to the chili.

I love it full of veggies like bell peppers, onions, jalapeno, and also black beans. Sometimes with or with out ground beef.
Add 1/2 of a good brew, save the other 1/2 for me and top it with cheddar and sliced green onions.

(We just had th is last night!! :p)

I love Colorado style green chili (chicken - pork is traditional but it crashes my blood sugar, fresh roasted peppers, cream cheese... no beans) and I like white chili (although I am not allowed it much cuz of the white beans, but it's beans and chicken) and I like red chili (lots of beef - cut not ground, no beans).

Lots of hot peppers and caramelized onion.

Topped with and i add black olives to all of it!

I add nutmeg and cinnamon to all of it too.
I can see the cheese and sour cream.....even the olives....
BUT..........
Nutmeg and cinnamon???? IN CHILI?????? :sick :gig :gig

Yes. Not a lot, just a bit. It adds a richness to the flavor that is really delicious.

Seriously, if Abi ever asks if you want to try a new recipe she is working on even if an ingredient or two sounds weird... SAY YES!!!

Meat of any kind, beans (medium amount), good chunks of stewed tomatoes, nice thick sauce, just enough spice to make it taste good (I'm not much on runny nose, eyes watering, tongue numb, lips swollen....you get the idea). Cooked long and slow in the crockpot ALL DAY. Load that bowl up and top it off with cheese and a few crackers....GET IN MY BELLY!!!!
