Trash talk is fun. BUT I guess we should quit for now. This competition could help many newbies out there who need garden help or advice.
Probably a good ideaBarredBuff said:Trash talk is fun. BUT I guess we should quit for now. This competition could help many newbies out there who need garden help or advice.

That would be question for your neighbor!Wannabefree said:I guess I really need to be crunching numbers...I have to figure out how many quarts of each thing I am going to need for the year and make those my goals. I reallllly want a years worth of produce out of my garden!!
Anybody have any idea what kind of yield in quarts the average tomato plant puts out?
Then i'd need about 75 of those plants LOL! We eat a LOT of tomato sauces, tomato sandwiches, salsas, juice, ketchup, barbecue sauce, etc. etc. etc. so I may just have a tomato garden with a couple other plantsFarmerJamie said:That would be question for your neighbor!Wannabefree said:I guess I really need to be crunching numbers...I have to figure out how many quarts of each thing I am going to need for the year and make those my goals. Several factors include variety, staking or no staking, weather, and how you're going to can them. Just cooking, squeezing, and canning will make a lot of quarts of basic juice. Salsas, sauces, etc, will take more tomatoes per quart of output.
I think one year I had 21 plants give me 7 bushels of tomatoes, I remember we put up 50 quarts of juice. (or not, oh my do the years begin to blend.)
But to me, that sounds about rightWannabefree said:Then i'd need about 75 of those plants LOL!
