Oh man prolapse, that's tough!! Hope everything worked out OK!! :fl

Our herd queen had triplets, but we lost the 1st one, #2 can out OK, but #3 was breach, and I had to reach in, do some adjusting of head and feet, got everything lined up and out she came.

TURN AWAY OFG :sick

But when it came to passing all the afterbirth, it took almost 3 days. At first I thought she had a prolapse, all this goo hanging out, it was pretty bad, nothing like I every saw before, but I've only been doing this for a couple years (7 different births). We gave her a shot (can't remember the name) am & pm on day 2, that was suppose to help her pass it, another shot am day 3 and she finally passed all of it. I didn't know if we were going to have to put her down or what, pretty nasty!!!

Unfortunately, it didn't go well. You can read about it in my journal...I think it's around page 55 or so.

That must of been some stomach ache waiting for her to pass that! Our cows, who were first time heifers, all took 2 weeks to pass their placentas, but the vet said that for heifers that was normal. For goats, though, I know it's not normal. Luckily for me, I've yet to have a retained placenta.

Sorry to hear that :( That's what we've heard, that if you get a prolapse, it's pretty much,,, well not good.

But I am reading your journal, just haven't made it that far yet, I'd have to check my list, but I think I'm in the 20-30pg range. Hopefully things are getting better :thumbsup

Things are great now! I guess with prolapses they're either really good or really bad. aggieterpkatie had one with her sheep, Purl, this year and Purl is doing fine. But katie was there to "catch it in the act" and had the vet out STAT. Purl healed up fine and is a great mother now (she prolapsed BEFORE she lambed) but can no longer be bred.

Unfortunately for me, I had just taken the baby monitor out of the goat barn because this doe and her sister were going to their new home the next day. I knew both were bred but thought they had time to go and never would've thought she would kid 'so soon'. I never heard her calling and when I found her in the morning she had already delivered a big ol honkin buckling and was lying there with her innards out. Vet came out immediatly, but she'd been like that for too long, at least several hours, and as much as I tried she passed 24 hours later. Of course, looking back at the pictures I took of her the night she kid (my "goodbye pictures since they were going to a new home) I should've noticed their postures and realized they were really close. Hind sight is 20/20....

Live and learn - I left the monitor on for weeks after even though I had no one else due to kid. I actually just turned the monitor off the other day and I feel guilty about it!

I got a little snap happy w/ the camera when I took pic's of the new buckling last week, so I figured I'd let ya see a couple more from The Trout Pond.

Most of these are inside our 100+yr old timberframe barn, that they were going to tear down right before we bought the place. I told them if they tore it down, we wouldn't be buying the place. Well they didn't and we did!! huhuhuh We bought the farm :p

Here's our chicken room inside the barn.

If you look, the back half of the room is divided (3rd chicken pic) and behind that wall is...

Here's part of the rabbit room

Love, love, love your barn! Wow!
We do too!!!

After we bought the place, got to talking w/ my FIL, and found out that Momma's Great-Great grandparents built it back in 1901, so I was EXTREMELY happy we stood our ground. It just needed a little attention and TLC, but it was still straight and the roof didn't leak!!
We put all new metal siding and roof, new doors and hopefully we
ll have it for several more years!!!

BTW, where at in FL, we lived 12yrs in St Pete, just moved back 7yrs ago, didn't want family to be pic's in the photo albulm. It was soooo the right choice!!!

We are in Ocala. We lived in Cincinnati for 3 1/2 years, moved back here about 5 or 6 years ago. Our first spring in Ohio was absolutely the best! Beautiful weather to die for. But I found out that that wasn't the norm...couldn't wait to get back to sunny Florida! :D
