This has nothing to do with politics or anything else. The point is that it is a derogatory term and it should have never been used in that context here on this forum or BYC. All the OP should have said is that they did not prefer to live in a rural area.

It was my understanding from what was said that "rural' area had nothing to do with it...but more likely the problem the person had was with the "conservative" or, people that go to "church". Both terms were used in a demeaning way along with the "h" word.

I also think it is interesting that anyone that wants to be SELF sufficient can also be a "progressive" as progressives typically want social programs that provide for you by sharing the wealth....rather than you providing for yourself (aka self sufficient).
