Vitamin D...especially in these Northern towns...it will make a difference. I know my thinking goes way off without it and I get alot of nervous energy without it as well.
Stay away from anything red...juice etc...they dye is often a culprit
A good omega 3 also helps

1: what is neurotoxic? (I can do enough to figure neuro = brain, and whatever is therefor toxic to it, but more info please ;) )
2: why is powdered milk neurotoxic, and the only commercial milk product without powdered milk is whole milk? As in my 2% store-bought milk (not ultra pasteurized) in the plastic gallon jug?

I want to do raw dairy, but it's illegal to sell "unless for consumption by pets only," and the closest source I've found yet is 1-1/2 hrs away. I know my lactose intolerant Aspergers/ADHD son would greatly benefit. I've done the research on GFCF diet (it was either gfcfdiet.com or .org, for whoever was wanting web addy's), and it's just NOT in my budget right now. I just try to do minimally processed as much as I can.

Neurotoxic on a simple level means it either kills or makes sick brain cells.
Milk when it is taken to the creameries, has all the fat seperated out of it, and then they add either 1 or 2% fat back into it. Powdered milk is often added to it as well.

I eat gluten free, and honestly its not expensive. It is if you fall for the industries idea of gluten free, but I refuse to do that.
I'll start a new thread for you with the simple changes to recipes for gluten free on a budget.

1%, 2% or skim...especially if it is ultra pasteurized, is not healthy. Whole milk raw is best but if you can't get that you SHOULD be able to get some vat, low temp pasteurized milk. In Colorado we get Farmer's Creamery brand. It's all from small Mennonite farmers.

Remember, natural fat is good for your brain. That fat also helps the body utilize vitamins since many are fat soluble. It also is what triggers your body that you are full.

There is NO REASON to drink milk that isn't whole. Natural saturated fat doesn't make you fat, doesn't clog your arteries, or turn you in to a newt. Whole milk is real food. Skimmed milk is not.

So if the only thing I can do right now is make the switch to store-bought whole milk (not ultra-pasteurized - I checked the label) that's better than nothing?

I'd have to go at least 45 minutes (maybe an 1-1/2 hr) to get the low-temp pasteurized stuff :/ Most of the time I love living rural, but it does have its drawbacks when the closest town of any size is that far away :(

And I have (storebought) 1/2 & 1/2 that I put in my coffee every morning, but it's ultra pasteurized. Is that horrible? Just tastes better to me than the flavored creamers :idunno

Yes! One change is better then none! The 1/2 and 1/2 is not ideal, but its better then the fake stuff.
You can maybe try and slowly work towards switching to whole milk :idunno

I've drunk 1% milk for years. Recently, I switched to 2%, and have noticed a difference in taste, not only in the milk, but in things that I've made w/it. Next time I have to buy milk, I'm going for whole milk.

Gonna get whole milk next time I need more milk ;)

And hopefully, just maybe, I MIGHT have a source for raw milk by the time I go next to the "Big City" next week, so maybe I can get some of it!

They add the powdered milk to get the "mouth feel" back that is lost when they centrifuge off all the fat. The processing that makes powdered milk alters the proteins, making them neurotoxic.

Our bodies use nutrients in a way that can be illustrated by locks and keys...certain nutrients have a shape, and the receptor in our body is looking for that shape. Altering proteins is like smashing the key....then there is no "lock" for it to fit into in the body and it becomes a poison.

The worst of the worst are the hydrogenated fats, because they are not quite altered enough that the body rejects them. Rather, the body is tricked into using them in place of saturated fats. This creates dead spaces in cell walls, etc, where no locks, doors, or windows exist so communication and proper function no longer takes place. It is one of the theories behind Type II diabetes and insulin resistance.

It is criminal that this continues and that the public is being lulled into thinking that the food industry has our health as its top priority....or that they wouldn't be able to sell us stuff that is bad for us, so it must be ok.

Rant over. For now. :p
