My sis sells fertile guinea eggs. She has a multi colored flock, blue, lavender, dundotte, pearl, royal purple and cameo. If you are interested in buying some I can get you her information so you can order some.
I would say you got Pekins and Brown Chinese - because their bills are curving up towards their foreheads. Toulouse bills don't curve up towards the foreheads, but do have a small curve down towards their nose.
Hope you enjoy them! Ducklings and goslings are messy, but boy are they a ton of fun!
Those birds look ready to go to me! Keeping them a bit longer is OK too - this time of year, but in the warmer months they have a lot of trouble and they end up overheating and dying if I try it.
If I were you I would pick out a few of the nicest to grow out for roasters and start cleaning the biggest you have a few at a time after the choice birds are removed from contention. How many meaties did you raise all together?
We have 25 out there. We could do them earlier and I will if it looks like they are having issues. Even though the pens are out at the edge of the woods with lots of shade I wouldn't want to try it during the summer. We did the last ones - I believe 23 of them - the last 2 weekends in October.
I checked Cackle's website it says they don't have brown chinese, only white but they have african geese and they look alot alike as babies - maybe mine could be african? Here is a better pic of the face:
Well - I got some guinea eggs from ebay, came wrapped really well in a box full of packing pnuts. So now I just need to put them under the broody hen - right? Well now she has decided to not stay on the nest I tried all week to figure out which hen was trying to set - before I got the guinea eggs we had to lift her to gather eggs, all week I haven't been able to catch her on the nest I gave up and went and bought an incubator yesterday - I wanted one, but I didn't want to get right now I'd rather have let the mama hen do the work. Anyway got it set up and ran it yesterday afternoon and evening and then I put the eggs in - 28 days will be Mother's day so hopefully I'll get some babies for Mother's day
Of course now that I have the bator I'm dreamin of all the chicks I can hatch
