I see the poultry electric netting, but I can't afford that!

have had a chicken electrocute herself on the fence - true, she was caught, so it wasn't a quick zap as much as continuous current.

GD, I will check the diameter of the chicken wire - I think it is so small they couldn't get their heads in it - it is "vintage" and a good gauge. shoot.

good thinkg I jumped on the computer to find a tomato roasting recipe, as I am halfway through inside chores and just about ready to head out to the coop to tackle the fencing. I had not thought about them getting their heads caught. sheesh.

hows that eggplant parm going.. wow you just gave me an idea for dinner later this week! whoot! i grew ONE eggplant and i'm treating it like gold.

I just had left over eggplant parm, yummy. the only thing that didn't come from my garden was the cheese and the breadcrumbs. oh, ok, the salt and pepper didn't either :)

tried a new way for me - rolled the eggplant slices in egg, rolled in breadcrumbs seasoned, and then baked the slices on a cookie sheet for a half hour or so, then proceeded as normal.

much faster than tediously frying the slices in a skillet. and I'm going to bake up the last 4 eggplants in breadcrumb coated slices and freeze them - I can add canned tomato sauce and cheese this winter and presto! eggplant parm all winter long.

made myself kind of hungry here again, gotta go look for some pie.

yum...

did you drizzle with oil or just plop in the over? turn over or just let bake??

nah, skip the oil. just whisk the eggs ( took two for a large eggplant), skin the eggplant, dip in egg, roll in crumbs, plop on the cookie sheet. don't grease the sheet, the crumbs keep it from sticking - i had coarse ground crumbs. if you used store crumbs that were like powder, I might grease the sheet. I was too busy to turn it over. worked fine.

i am so sad. had to put my 20 year old cat down today, she's been with me for 17 years. I thought I was prepared for this, but I am not.

It was a good decision, and her passing was very peaceful, but I miss her so much already. Partly because she has been ill enough to require a lot of care over this summer, so I keep turning to check on her and she isn't there.

buried her by the rose bushes.

my other cat is also distraught - she keeps walking thru the house and meowing. very restless. I brought the body into the house so she could see her, and she didn't really have a reaction then. But now she keeps calling for Polly.

I know I will feel better. I just didn't know it would be so hard.

So sorry to hear that. It was probably the correct decision but it didn't make it any easier. Please allow yourself to grieve, she was part of your family for so long. It is amazing how attached we become to our pets over the years.
