Well, I called the guy today. There was a typo online. :( The 15 acers is selling for 175,000. There is 5 1/2 acers for 39,000. MIL didn't help by telling me to forget it and go get an apartment or rent something in the city. I am still going to look at the land this Friday and talk to the guy and see if there is anything else advailable or if he could point us in the right direction. If anything it's good practice.

What a freaken bummer. :barnie <--- dosen't even come close.
:hugs here's :fl you find what your looking for! I'm sure you handled your MIL better than I would have. I'd have  and :duc and walked away :D

Yeah that comment was totally unnecessary.

5 1/2 acres isn't bad thought. Of course I have a lot the size of a postage stamp so anything bigger than mine sounds huge :D

I am rather upset right now. I kinda blew her off. It seems like every time I bring up a property or mention moving out in general she finds away to crush my spirits.
Something is always wrong. I guess she isn't ready to let her son go because she is trying her da**est to keep up home. :(
Yeah, that can be hard. CJ refuses to move away from this area until his mother is gone because he feels he needs to be here for her if anything happens to his father and/or brother. Of course, the fact that currently it is my mother who is having to deal with all the cancer stuff means nothing  On the otherhand, I happen to know that my mother is stronger in herself and in general than his is, so I'm ok with this arrangement :)

It will get better, eventually :hugs :hugs :hugs it will just take time and patience, a bit of :fl and alot of :duc and a little :smack once in a while. Plus plenty of :bun with the new hubby:bun ;)

Maybe it's just my cheap side speaking, but $40k sounds like an awful lot for 5.5 acres with no house. Being sided by a state park is great but... wow. That's over $7k an acre. Probably prime hunting land, tho.

In Many-snow-ta standards I'm thinking that's quite a bit too, at least compared to what I've looked at. I do think being by a state park would mean that it costs more though.
I've found 6 acres for almost 10k before, but often times I see 2-3 acres for that price.
Over 40k for 5 acres? Better be some outbuildings or a little cabin for that price.

Shop around! Take your time! If you do buy a place, you'll likely be on it for a long time so it's important to find something you are happy with, even if it might cost a little extra.

Also, consider zoning for ag, livestock, etc. as you look for land.
You can also check your state's DNR website, often times they have public auctions on land that goes pretty cheap.
