so browsing and checking out campgrounds as usual. always on the lookout for nice places near me and I hit upon the Tennessee state park system.
last time I went to TN it was a 5 hr. drive to the cg and lake we chose to visit. WELL HECK if there aren't a few choice state parks right over the border!!! 2 hr drive to one, 2 1/2 to another nice one and my limit for a fast weekend is 3 hr drive and yes there is one that fits that drive time.
AND THEY ALL HAVE PUBLIC INGROUND SWIM POOLS WITH LIFEGUARD.
WOOOOOO HOOOO fab for kiddo. and lake swimming and all have lakes and rivers for fishing and trout fishing. 2 of the parks have full hookups and one we have to use the dump station but no big deal.
I tell I found a gold mine here.
I believe June 1 we will hit the closest park for a trial and see how it is and if we like, we keep on the 'GO AS OFTEN' as we can cause at $25 per night you can't go wrong.
I tell ya Deb the campground prices for private cgs are getting very high.
my old standby at Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach increased ALOT. I was paying $65 prime season oceanfront. eh, doable for a nice place. I checked. NOW IT IS $85 per night. Sadly that is out of my league now so I doubt I will ever go there again, but hey, my SC beachfront state park is $26 per night. gee, not hard to figure out where I am giong
Can't say I blame you. I don't like normal campgrounds, too expensive and too many people. I much prefer the state parks in the middle of the week. They're cheap and there's no one around.
You should come up here, they are just finishing a "redneck campground" with red and yellow and green palm trees just east of me. Looks like it'll be great fun! And there is a 40 acre deer breeding farm right next door!
If you want to come to Iowa check out shemick state forest and river valley campground. River valley is for horse camping but they have reg campers too. Heck of a nice place! And shemick is huge!
