Posted this on another thread but thought i'd share it here too.....

Thought I'd share a funny story. For those who don't know...I went in with pinkfox and ordered some duckies a week or so ago. Then I had chicks hatch about 5 days later. Well since the ducklings weren't being too messy yet we put them in the same brooder which lasted precisely until yesterday The ducks were slinging too much water and going through too much slopping it out and getting the chicks wet. So, we took the chicks out and seperated them into their own brooder. They were NOT happy! They were screaming bloody murder! I couldn't figure out what was wrong with them, they had water, had food, and some were meandering over to it, so I figured they'd all find it eventually and calm down. Oh but NO! They screamed like they were dying for nearly two hours until I just couldn't handle it anymore. Still wasn't sure what was wrong with them, but thought maybe it was the missing ducks So we put one of the ducklings into the new clean chicks brooder....instantly quiet. Everybody shut their beaks and promptly snuggled down for some sleep. I have never seen chicks get that upset over leaving ducklings behind. The only thing I can figure is they think they're their mommas The chicks are content as long as a duck is present. If we take the duck out, the screaming commences. Leave the duck in, everybody is fine I guess we'll have to do a "duck sitter" rotation until all these young ones can go outside. Farming is crazy sometimes Anyone else ever have a similar experience? It's kind of weird.

 Nope, but glad I'm not experiencing it! I had to leave yesterday because my chicks were being too noisy. I couldn't take it any longer! But, they've calmed down.

lol chicky sitting duckies :p
its adorable though! and the ducks have gorwn so fast i bet there huge compared ot the little chicks lol.

In terms of the ants, we had some issues at the rental house, i mixed borax and sugar for them to take back and kill the nest then i sprinkled cayenne and crushed dried HOT pepper (the hotter the better) around the nest mound and along eindowsills and walls (essentially anywhere id sen the ants getting in or marching around
Capsaicin will kill ants so they tend to avoid it, not cross over it if a line is placed ect...
and of course the higher the concentrationof capsaicin the better so the dried and powdered versiouns of the hottest peppers you can get work the best.
all natural, wont harm the plants and it works for the sugar ant invasion in the rental house (and we had THOUSANDS because of the cheap cat food my roommates fed.
we couldnt do ant bait because of the cats, ferrets and y 2 dogs (more worried about their ferret than any of the other critters) so i heard about the pepper and the cayenne worked nicely.

I have GOT to stop reading these journals. I miss baby ducks. I was hoping to have some around this spring, until that stupid weasel killed all but one drake. Least it could have done is leave me a hen instead so I could at least enjoy some delicious eggs. Jerk. I do have a huge cabinet incubator sitting in the garage that calls to me every once in awhile (like when I read about other peoples' baby ducks, lol) but alas, I've been told that if I so much as plug it in, I'm dead meat. :(

Lol. I'd still be dead meat! I bought it knowing that I wouldn't be able to use it right away. But it was too good of a deal to pass up, so I bought it and tucked it away in the garage for use next year (hopefully) when I have my own place.

I can ship it back...and store it for free... :gig I seriously want one of those eventually!!! I can't afford one right now, but if I can sell a bunch more chicks this Spring, I am sooooooo getting one next year! I could make a killing with one of those this year! Income tax went for behond bills though :(

That's how I got mine. Tax returns. Although it doesn't help me right now, I know that in the "5 year goal" it will certainly pay for itself. It's huge. I mean, way bigger than the ones my friend has. I was lucky to have my car (Subaru Baja) or it wouldn't have made it home with me. I forget the model, but it's an older GQF one.
