I wish we would get snow occasionally. The most I have ever seen personally is an inch or so. We do get the ever popular ice storms. They shut us down for weeks. Salt trucks? City & highway department spread slag rock on the bridges to keep them from freezing.

Noobie- I love your fingers in the ears smiley. I laughed when I saw that.
We don't get much in the way of ice storms, but when we do they cause so much damage. Pretty, but dangerous.
We do get black ice which makes the pavement a death trap; The invisible danger.

I believe I outlined why it is not techically called global warming anymore.

I believe world climate is a complex system. Know anything about those? Does "feedback loop" ring a bell?
It's a little convenient, isn't it?

As soon as temperatures are no longer warming, the consensus  changes the name ?

I know this isn't related to the original topic, and sorry about that...maybe we should start another thread....

but what are your thoughts on climategate?

No problem with scientists adjusting the numbers to sell their theory?

Isn't science supposed to be an exercise in discovering the truth, no matter what that truth is?

NC has like 2-3 snow plows....and I think they are houses WAY on the other side of Charlotte.....LOL-LOL

we got alot of salt trucks for the icy conditions....but a snow plow? never see them.

in PA most of our taxes went to buying snow plows. I liked that....some snow and 25,000 trucks would hit the roads. good deal!

OK---we had bunch of snow (gone), tons of rain, sleet and some other flurries, and tons of rain right now......and they cancelled school at 9:30....so those poor kids had to go for an hr. or so? LOL

crazy

just say snow and schools close (even without a flake ever falling here)

Not in southern PA. They don't send plows out until the snow has stopped. It's maddening.

We're supposed to get 12 inches here in central-western va. My kids are at their granny's house 2 1/2 hrs away so I get a quiet weekend to myself! Yay snow!

We're ready too.....I went to the store this morning to get a lighter (got candles but couldn't find a lighter) and milk and cat food. I have one bathtub filled and extra waterers in the house for when everything freezes. If our power goes out then we have the grill but no heat source in the house but the last time this happened we were fine with no power for 4 days, even without heat. Guess it's a good thing I'm a quilter now, isn't it???

hey Lori do you plan on getting some type of alternate heat source eventually? just wondering

when I lost power for (I think 5, maybe 6 days years ago) the house was so cold to the core. I had to leave and stay at moms....it took about 2 days to warm the mattress back up...LOL

I got my propane fireplace now and honestly I don't know how I lived without it....power goes out the house stays soooooo warm and that makes me smile big time.

We have about 18 inches of snow on the ground now, and it's supposed to warm up in the next few days.... it's been WAY too cold to snow here, last night was -27C, about -17F and my pipes froze, so I had to creep around in a dark crawl space attempting to get the water running before the pipes exploded.

I'm hoping we don't get anymore snow before Christmas, our driveway is 200 feet long and I have one snow shovel... the next door neighbour who usually does it sold his tractor :(
