Same as Lori here. We're supposed to get around 12 as well.

My family in Ashville NC already have snow - and according to some friends I have in Greenville NC - they have seen an errant flake or two.

I love snow. I grew up in NC and we rarely ever got it. I remember when I was a freshman in high school there (about 3/4 of a million years ago) and it snowed for 5 mins and stopped - and they still cancelled school. LOL

Salt trucks? City & highway department spread slag rock on the bridges to keep them from freezing.
I remember driving back several years ago, on the 2nd of January, through Louisiana. It was snowing and I held my breath EVERY TIME I drove over a bridge, because I could FEEL my tires skating! Driving tip: when my car skids on ice, the FIRST THING I do is take my foot OFF of the accelerator and coast....and pray

As soon as temperatures are no longer warming, the consensus  changes the name ?

I know this isn't related to the original topic, and sorry about that...maybe we should start another thread....

but what are your thoughts on climategate?

No problem with scientists adjusting the numbers to sell their theory?

Isn't science supposed to be an exercise in discovering the truth, no matter what that truth is?
Global Warming vs. Global Climate Change: As far as I have heard, overall temperatures are still rising. Take into account that is averaging over the entire earth's surface, so that may not be consistent with what is happening in your own backyard. When the entire globe warms, the effects will be all over the place (complex system) . . . all I know is that the models scientists use and their understanding of what exactly will happen (like the ocean salinity and ocean current issue) will change over time. Life is change. I'm not sure what to say about that. You can cling to the "global warming" moniker if you want. Your choice.

Climategate: Humans are fallible and scientists are no better or worse than the rest of humanity. I haven't really paid attention to the details, because I chalk it up to human fallibility. There are a lot of examples of people's biases getting in the way, even in science . . . historically too. Nothing new here.

Honestly, I don't care what you or anyone believes about climate change or even about how generally humans impact the earth, because I truly believe we have passed a tipping point and "it just don't matter no more." I'm just glad I don't have any progeny that I have to worry myself over. :D

Why not? I find it interesting that you just brush it off to human fallibility. ....especially when it impacts so many people.

I'm sorry Scott, but without a legend on your graph (not just time and temp. -- time and temp of WHAT?) I really cannot decipher what was graphed exactly. A source for where you got your graph would be nice. :D That is a very short period of time to graph something anyway (see my previous post discussing long term trends)

In what way are so many people impacted? By what some group of scientists say? So . . . are we all being restricted as to how many miles we can drive on our cars per day, and how much food we can buy, etc., etc.? What did you mean?

Edited for clarification
