TMI!!! I guess it probably wouldn't take that long...

Thanks Noobie for the info!
ICK! No problem framing fowl.

I did try a batch by blending with the stick blender and they did fine. I added some zucchini to the sauce & pureed all of it. A few zuc seeds made it through and a few scraps of tomato skin, but overall it was quite nice.

The cherry tomatoes mom has running out of her ears I'm drying just cut in half. Sprinkled with a little salt and coarse ground pepper.

what do you all think the drying time would be on some sun dried tomatoes here in georgia.

the heat index is saying 107 degrees tomorrow . my car's dark blue :)

I'm wondering if i can get them and come home and put them in the car to cook around 2pm and get away with it.

Also how do i store them?

Once things are nice and dry you can use those mayo jars or other glass (not for canning) jars or regular canning jars with a well marked USED canning lid. If you are not into so much recycling you can store in a Ziploc bag.

I like to take one final step before storing my dehydrated goods. I spread the food on a tray and put it in the oven at 160 for a couple of minutes to pasteurize the food which kills any left over mold spores or bug eggs and helps things to keep even longer!

I dehydrated dill in the car and apples in the dehydrator. I decided to dry the peelings too. I found I like them.
I just hated wasting all those pretty red peels. So I thought why not dry them. Then I can use them to make apple jelly or feed them to the critters at another time. But when I tasted them, I realized, I will probably eat them all.

I had left over blueberries from my jam making so I cut about a pint in half and put them on my ancient dehydrator- it is so old that the plastic trays are yellow and cracking away from the rim! I looked up replacement trays on the 'net, but they don't even make that model anymore (the round white brand), and don't sell replacement trays.

Maybe that is the Universe's way of saying I should invest in a new dehydrator. Either that or use my car while it is still summer. Now I am getting the itch to dehydrate all the various fresh fruits of summer. I love dried fruit!

My mom always just left the peel on her apples to dry. I remember getting dried apples at a friends house and wondering what was wrong with it  .

Valmom, check a bit further before you give up on your dehydrator. I am laid up on the couch with a bum foot at present, and can't check my (round, white) machine, but it is my understanding that the comapnay name has been changed. I just googled "Harvest Maid Dehydrators" and got all sorts of sites that might be helpful to you.

I'm dehydrating zucchini (3 trays of round slices), zucchini (3 trays of lengthwise sliced ribbons for lasagna), and zucchini (3 trays of shredded).

I just put four soda can trays filled with basil in the car to catch all of tomorrow's heat....the entire back seat is covered and the trays extend a bit beyond the edge of the seat. A lot of basil for a lot of Italian sausage this winter!

I am so glad I "over did it" on the basil planting this year, getting 5 six-packs on sale at the end of the season. Basil is DISMAL this year, small plants, bug-eaten, already starting to flower, even my little patch of no-bolt basil. I harvested a bit less than half to get those four trays, and still have plenty to ferment for salad dressing mix. Hopefully I'll get a second cutting as I cut them back quite severely.
