But how deep are those roots? Thinking of growing some next year and my tiller does not go deep unless I go over a few times. It's an electric one. Haven't use my new one yet which is gas powered. Those pickes look scary, lol
I start hitting asparagus roots at about 4" and deeper.

I'm not going to dig a grave for ours. I'll just double till and that will be about it, maybe 8 to 10 inches deep. Kiddie pool aint very deep and they are doing fine in there. I don't see a need to dig a grave.

Back at hotel after spending time with son, his wife and grandkids. We did girls out before dinner and had our nails done.

Had a bad experience driving up. I have a habit of passing semi's so was about to pass one on the left at exit 53B towards 65 south. Received a text for daughter in law,so decided to slow down and get behind the semi. The semi took the curve to closed and faster than should have and turned a few times landing on the other side of 65S. It would had crushed me for sure. Stopped and call 911. It was an eye opener and assurance that the Lord watches over me.

What I was talking about is rototilling between rows of asparagus. Once you have your rows established, if you continue tilling between the rows, you will most likely be cutting off the roots as they spread outward from the rows. I have found asparagus roots at least 2' outside of my asparagus bed.

New growth asparagus do start with shallow roots but as they mature their roots go both down and out. I did not put my plants 8" deep when I planted them but their roots go deeper than that now.

@Dreamz glad you are ok, how scary was that!

Going to working on more garden clean up and preparing the beds for winter. I will be scooping out some chicken run material to lay down and then add some pine needles and a little dirt on top of that.

I am debating on if I should cut back my strawberries or not, I have read articles on leaving them and cutting them and not sure which way to go--anyone want to chime in with what you do?

Fall raspberries are really starting to come in strong, lots of green berries on the canes. After then come and we eat them, I will cut those all down to the ground for winter too. Unsure of what I am going to do with the blackberry, cut the canes or no? (again any advice is welcome)

are you otherwise planning on renovating them? the energy for the coming seasons comes from those leaves, i'd see no purpose in cutting them back like that.

i need to renovate my existing strawberry patch but just don't have the time or energy for it this season. the whole thing could use some more organic matter added and turned under then replant. perfect upcoming time for it too with rain in the forecast. hmm... maybe i can talk myself into doing some of it this year, even a few rows is better than none. if there's no bean pods ready to pick today or tomorrow then it would be a good quick project.

picked dry pods yesterday for three hours until my back gets tired and says that's enough. today will be the same thing but now i'm finally done with inside the fence bean gardens and can check the gardens outside the fence.
