picked through one of the bean gardens and got an overflowing paper bag of bean pods to shell out - they were sorted and put aside in boxes and flats to finish drying off any of the dewfall that happens each night. this was the third picking and there are still more beans finishing up in there. the back half of that same garden i've not picked through yet as it is the last garden that was planted and i'm not sure how much it might have in it but we'll see when i get to it.

no rains last night or this morning so i have a whole week now of no rain in the forecast and perfect weather for getting a lot done outside. either putting up gardens, weeding or any other things i can get done. temperatures will be moderate most of the week (mid-60s).

fire risk now though with windy and so much dry weather.

A goal in next week or two is to plant garlic. I've wanted to do that for a few yrs, it didn't happen. 😔 Last yr I actually bought garlic to plant...this yr I'm looking in the box & wondering if they'll still sprout. Some cloves were pretty dry but you could feel centers still there. Some soft necks were actually moist enough to cook with. So, I put wet paper towels in a container, added cloves, cover more wet PT and sealed glass container. We'll see how that goes 🤷 nothing to lose. To be safe 🙄 I order more bulbs. They'll be here this week. I'll get the container bed ready for garlic! 🥰 If these sprout, then I'll plant those...2 bulbs of ea of 3 varieties still, plus new - another 6 bulbs. That should give me at least 50-60 cloves. Plenty of garlic for me 👍

My chicken planted tomatoes are growing great!! Setting fruit. Maybe fresh tomatoes for Thanksgiving.

if there is a core that is still there and the base plate of the bulb is still ok then you may get garlic to grow from such a start, but really you will do much better getting newer cloves and planting those instead. for one you can pick bigger cloves and for two they will have more energy left and grow bigger and better and that means bigger and better results (all other conditions being the same).

i did as mishmash of things today. there was an old ironing board that Mom wanted to set out with the trash so i started taking it apart and then realized i could use it for putting over the groundhog tunnel where it keeps coming under the fence. it hasn't used that hole in a while now that i've dumped a lot of rotting onions there, but eventually it may have decided to come up through there again. so now i have a nice metal mesh ironing board laying there instead. :) the legs i also kept just in case i can use them for the fence someplace or something. so pretty much only a bit of metal is going out to the recycling and the wire is going out in the trash...

the other part of today was spent trying to find my glass cutting wheel so i could score some tiles and snap them. it was right where i looked for it the first time i just didn't look well enough and found it a few hours later after talking myself into looking again where it was supposed to be. i have to put tiles on a bench seat - i have the tile, the glue/grout and some nippers, and now i have the bench washed and drying but i think it may take a few days to dry out completely to where i feel ok sticking tiles on it. we'll see how it looks tomorrow afternoon.

checked out the back part of the last bean garden i planted. not many of those beans are dry yet so i may be eating shellies if there are frosts in the forecast. we'll see how it goes the next week or two...

also should look at some peppers to see if they are ready enough to come in or be given away before they get damaged by frosts.
