I have had raccoons turn live traps upside down to dump the bait out without tripping the trap.

That could be it! Next time, I will anchor it down

I'm moving my groundhog traps -- looks like I got them all, 4 days no bait touched -- to a place I'm thinking more possum lurks. I'll bait with their favorite, eggs. We'll see what happens. Hope it's not a skunk....possum don't have the spray

There is a camp ground not far from here, where coons live off of campers coolers. Experts in overnight thievery, highly skilled at opening tupperware containers, beer/soda cans.

The cold tolerance test with dry beans is officially a success. I planted in February and the plants are ripening now, at the start of summer heat. They're stunted by the cold, of course, but still producing. Next year will be better.

Squash bugs on the pumpkins. Any survivors will be harvested for seed. Only two of the plants survived from the cold tolerance test but I replanted pumpkins and moschata.

The flax is blooming. Once it drops its seeds I'll mow and it will theoretically be mulch for the fall crops. I'm trying to decide if I should use daikon radish or wheat as the winter cover crop. I planted sweet potatoes on the contour lines which will put lots of good stuff in the soil when they die over the winter.

Melons are starting to bloom, watermelons starting to sprawl.

0 culinary water use so far this year. That will change shortly, but only for the few perennials that aren't established yet.

Anybody know what this is? It part of a 15 bean soup purchased at the grocery store, but does not appear to be a bean, a chickpea, or a lentil.

Interesting. All the pictures I found showed a long thin pod for chickpea.

Pods should only have 2-3 peas max. The wiki pictures for the pods look like yours

A brief thunderstorm with strong winds blew through mid afternoon. Two cages that weren't tight in their beds (having them loose makes it easier to move in/out) blew over. I have a plan to fix before the next big storm front
