Nothing, we did pretty much nothing and that saved us money

Oh wait, I did cook up a mess of black beans so we can have them in meals this week. And I might do something with some of them, like make refried beans or can some.

I went to yardsales and picked up several things we needed for little to nothing. I got baskets to put homemade gifts in for Christmas $2 for 4, a jacket for school for DD13 $4..for a $100 jacket, a sweater for church for DD13 $2 Aeropostale very CUTE, 2 shirts for church for hubster $2! for BOTH, and a sweater for church for myself $4 Arizona hooded and oh so soft, a few old antique Mason jars that I can use shortly for $1 each!, a $2 flour sifter that I NEED to make my stews this winter, an antique oil lamp FULL of oil already ;) $7 (best score of the day) for when the power goes out(and I know it will again),and a few things to resell that were such bargains I should be able to recoup what I spent on things for us...so basically it was all free :D I LOVE yardsales when you get there early enough for the bargains! I got brand new Gap hoodies with tags for $5 that retail for $30 and a Oakley laptop sleeve for $5 that retails for like $80...gonna sell those. PLUS I got to spend the WHOLE day with my Mommy and my favorite Aunt...PRICELESS, those ladies are a HOOT! I spent about $40 for a bunch of items and a LOAD of entertainment that is good for the soul ;)
That sounds like a great haul, and a fun time. But please enlighten me - why do you need a flour sifter to make stew?
I sift flour into the stew to thicken it rather than use things like cornstarch because DD 13 is allergic to cornstarch.
Oh; thanks. I just stir some flour into 1/2 cup of cold water, and stir that into the stew - no lumps :D. I have an old sifter of my mother's (grandmother's?) but I admot to very rarely using it.

My future-sister-in-law works at a greenhouse. They were having a grand opening of a new store, so we when there to say hi.

They were have and awesome sale too! I got two flats of everbearing strawberries for $0.35 each! Some of them have rooted runner and most of them still had berries on them! We got 3 indoor ferns (boston ferns) and a daisy-style mum for free. I could not believe the trunk was full of plants (and a pumpkin) for just under $20.

The high school had planted a garden and in the newsletter there was a little article saying to come pick whatever you want. We got a whole bunch of stuff. If I can find recipes for green tomatoes I will get some. O.M.G. More green tomatoes than I could ever count!

I went to the Friends of the Library book sale. Spent $20 and came home with over 40 books on gardening, beekeeping, DIY home maintenance and repairs, making garden furniture and ornaments, quilting, plus a bunch of novels. In the Black and Decker home repair book, I found the information I needed to plumb our icemaker into the water supply. That little fix alone saved me $85!

tortoise, Fried Green Tomatoes! That's all I have to say...they are SO :drool :drool :drool GOOD! Oh and guess you could make some Green Tomato Relish too. It's very good as a healthy condiment. I canned several quarts a few years ago, and everyone loved it on hot dogs. Google for recipes, I think I got my recipe on recipezaar.

I didn't save any money today, I spent money. Tithes and lunch. Actually, I did get some meat for burgers to cook at home after church rather than going out...so technically...I saved about $20 for the 3 of us going out to eat :D All the food was $20, but I picked up a few extra items while I was there. Can't wait to never have to grocery shop again!!! SS is so far off, but I'm working on it ;)
